Game glitching in different ways after update

I recently updated my game with the free update that came with Lovestruck. Ever since then I have had all sorts of problems, and literally cannot play the game at this point.  

The first glitch I had was that the game just crashed constantly, so it froze and whilst the time was set to play (it wasn't paused) but the time did not move forward, all sims froze and I could not change sim. Each time this happened I had to force quit the game and relaunch. This happened every 15 minutes for HOURS. 

Then the day after I launched the game and the new glitch was that one of my household sims was locked out of the house and was treated like a visitor so each time a member of the household had to invite in the sim before they could enter. 

When I relaunched today, the new problem is that my sim can't bathe the toddler. It comes up with a bubble that they can't access the bath, but that is not true. There is nothing in the way, and the sim can still pick up the toddler. I have tried to place the bath in the middle of a massive space and that still isn't working. 

Not only this, but today I can't open the cheats bar so I can't even cheat the needs bars up so the sims are just miserable and I can't play the game. 

The game is literally unplayable at this point and I have no clue what to do. I do not have mods, never have, and I never use cheats. I have updated and repaired the game and updated my laptop. I have cleared the cache. 

The game should just work, I should not have to go into all sorts of folders and move things around and be really tech savvy to make the game work. 

Any suggestions/commiserations(!) would be great.
