Game seems to have switched from DX9 to DX11

I've been noticing my game has been having an increased bouts of random unresponsiveness that has nearly taken over my game play time after the last update or two.

Today I noticed my game isn't running DX9 like it was last I'm aware of. I'm not sure when it switched over, just that I've just now noticed it has. Would this potentially be why I'm now encountering this increase of unresponsivness in my game?

    Yes, the default is now DX11. To see if it runs better in DX9 open Settings Game Options and on the Graphics tab select DX9.

    I think it's gone back to the usual level of periodic annoyance. 🥰

    But a different  issue I've noticed an increase of in my game, since the recent updates: the last played save's household have gone bald and have changed clothes between when I last saved/exited and opened my game again. . . What are my sims doing when I'm not around! 😐
