When I want to move household inventory I build a tiny room and place the items I want within it. Hang pictures, awards on shelves etc. Then I save that little room to my library and then place the room on the new lot. I put the items where I want in the place and delete the room walls.
I had to move sims stuff from one save to another and this worked well. It might not in apartments.
