How do you play your story? Inspiration tips needed

Hey all!

I am curious about the way you play your Sims. How do you create a storyline for them? I find that I have an idea when creating my Sims and a story I want to follow, the good Sims and the bad Sims. But somehow, I end up not following up with some of my plans. I end up wanting them to be perfect and can't make myself to make them evil and mean 😂

How do you proceed with the storyline after the teenage Sims grow up? I want to play the whole family, but it does not seem realistic to me to keep the adult Sims with their parents forever, and constantly switching is also not my favourite.

So I would like to hear some of your playing tactics and ideas 😁

@EeveeTinn--how about creating an antagonist? that way your main Sims can remain as nice as you'd like them, but you can still have someone available to potentially cause a little unrest. 😛

@unseenlarks I had an idea of turning one of their kids into meany and materialist, but I could not follow up with being mean 😂 since that father winter bug causing game freezing, I reset the whole save, so currently they have no kids. I will try to do that again and keep up with one of their kids simply being spoiled and mean 😂
  • I create a personal story for myself and even add drama. 😃 In my very first save, my two very first sims had twins! (I didn't know about mods at the time so I couldn't have used them to influence this! I was shocked but also happy!) It was a boy and a girl. Then I started adding more families to be neighbors (and future partners of the kids) and then my twin girl got pregnant as a teen. There was also a mean woman who was a friend of a neighbor's mom. The neighbor's mom was nice but she didn't know about her friend's meanness. The mean woman also had a half-sister who built an empire for herself while she only got inheritance from their dad.

In my first save after the account change, I made a couple who was facing supernatural problems. Their house was getting destroyed, they lost power, etc. etc. Then I made a few more households that were also facing supernatural trouble. Then I watched a runaway teen series, and realized I wanted a runaway child, which is how my story, The Child: Ximena-Daria Roseline was born, haha.

Basically I just keep adding drama to my stories until it gets way too intense. 🥳

  • I play rotationally and I like playing all kind of families and trying to make my households different form each other. Still I often end up with mum, dad and two children. The variation is having one or three children... I try to play bad sims too, but the game makes it hard because sims are autonomously so nice to each other. I think with bad characters it's important to remember that they aren't completely bad. They have a soft spot too and then they have something that drives them to be bad, justifies their behaviour.

What I enjoy most in my game is when I start with one household, then play their club friend, then a brother, then their enemy, it just continues and the sims are some how linked to each other. I often have some kind of loose storyline in mind, but leave room for new ideas. I tend to think what each sim child wants to become when they grow up and then aim for that. However I love surprises that the game throws at me and change my plans accordingly.

I don't know if this was any helpful though since you mentioned you don't want to switch constantly... Not sure what is constantly to you though. I'm thinking you could concentrate on one family pretty long before switching to the other, as long as they keep aging about the same pace. I really love rotational play, so I'd warmly recommend giving it a chance 🙂

@Synzorasize Did you also use a mod for your teen Sim to become pregnant?
I do not use mods since it is not my type of play (nothing against them, some are prettyyy cool) and just seems complicated especially after patching and EA breaking something always 😅

@simsimsere Hahah, in my last save their daughter had a 'mean' trait and she would get mean 😂 her mom even had a ''hurt'' sentiment about her, and I felt soooo bad and like I needed to scold her, even though I wanted her to be mean and bratty for the story. But I just could not stop ''fixing'' her 😅

Maybe I am also playing too fast. I see everyone here plays with aging off, while I play with long life span and constantly feel like they need to grow up even though there is still enough time. This is also probably because I don't really like playing toddlers and children. So I kind of feel like it is all going more sped up. And with rotation I mean, if I have a specific story for all of them, for example nice parents who got famous with their hard work, and their child got spoiled and is mean and bratty. I want to play all of them when the teens grow up, but it is not realistic to me that after young adults they still live with the parents. So I want to play both parents and kids, but I would need to switch the households then. For some reason it kills my play mood 😅
