how to deactivate objects on walls turning invisible when walls are not up

Any objects placed on walls turn invisible in "walls down" and "walls cut" view mode, only showing on "walls up" view mode.
This is EXTREMELY annoying. I want to turn that off and make all objects on a floor visible at all times, no matter the view mode.

To make it clear, I want to see the object floating in mid air if it is placed on a wall and that wall is invisible because I choose the view mode to be "walls down".
I searched a lot and have found no way except a mod or using something called a studio.

I just downloaded the game. This is very bothersome. I don't want to download anything extra, no mod, no studio. Just what configuration do I need to change or cheat can I use or what game file do I edit to disable objects placed on a wall turning invisible when the walls turn invisible?

Even objects I place on the walls, like towel hangers or toilet paper, turn invisible as soon as I place them and only show up when I try to place a new object.
That makes it extremely hard to have a vision of what is in the room, empty space or decorations.

I don't mind seeing floating paintings where walls should be at all. Not seeing the paintings at all angers me to no end, though.
Making objects placed on a wall turn invisible when I hide the wall has to be the worst feature ever...

Normally you would want to see what goes on in a room instead of looking at black squares from the back of paintings, Mirrors and so on.

If you really want to obscure your view of a room you could instead play with walls up but I would not advice it. I'm a bit curious about what benefit you see from having the view of the room obscured by black rectangles.

  • @jpkarlsen I can easily move my camera a tiny bit or move a painting or just delete it and place it again later, and the amount of paintings on the wall are way less obstructing than whole walls.

The biggest benefit is having clear visualization while working on the inner rooms, such as a small bathroom in the middle of a house.
While with walls up you will have a very hard time finding an angle where you can see inside, with walls cut and walls down will be the same where all 4 walls will be down and everything will be invisible.

There are many benefits to being able to see objects on the wall floating when the walls are invisible and that should be a toggle on the game, but since it isn't, I want to know how to do it myself, either with a .ini edit or with a cheat or something similar that I can do quickly and undo if and when I want to undo it, if that is possible, because it is really annoying most of the time to not see what is on the walls and where.

With cutaway view you can always see the opposite wall and what is on it without things on the closest wall obstructing your view only in walls down view will all walls be invisible. and if you need to see what is on the closest wall it is very easy to rotate the view. You write that there are many benefits from having your view partially obstructed. Could you name just one?

  • @jpkarlsen "With cutaway view you can always see the opposite wall"
Not for walls of inner rooms, and that is exactly the issue.

For any room in the middle of a house with rooms around it in all directions, cutaway works exactly like walls down view, so the ONLY way to see what is on any of their walls is by using walls up view, and that is a HUGE issue for me. It might not be for you, but it is for me.

And I already mentioned, I like to see what is on my walls even if the walls are down to see if the decoration is aligning with furniture I'm placing without having to raise my walls or move my camera to see said decoration.

Having those floating objects obstructing your view bothers you? Great, don't do this then.
But I do want them and not having those floating objects bothers me.

So the fact that you consider said obstruction of your view bad should NOT be a reason for why I should not have a method, be it from editing game files or a cheat, to see those floating objects as visible even if the walls are invisible.

I'm not requesting EA to make that a standard for the game, I'm asking for a method for those of us that might wish to see objects on the wall at all times to have it as an option.

  • There is a mod for it by littlemssam. I see you don't use mods though so unfortunately there's no way to accomplish this that I know of...
