I can't imagine how much worse The Sims 4 is gonna be in 2025, especially since it really became a bloated mess this year. The shopping cart icon, the Reward Events that you cannot opt out of, and the full-screen prompts at the main menu all have really made it self evident that The Sims 4 is bloated. Also not to mention that I'm one of those players who PAID for The Sims 4, so I should NOT have to have pop-ups and unnecessary icons shoved in my face, which if anything feel like YouTube ads.
You do not have to do any of these free events if you don't want to.

@jpkarlsen Then why is it being shoved in my face all the time? Many players do not want the icons and there's nothing you can do about them. The whole point of this game is to do what you want at your own desire, but the Reward Events are a literal distraction that tries to take away the core point of the game.

Not having to do them, and not having the icon in your face the whole time are two different things, obviously. The complaint is about the icon stuck in screen, not having to do them.

For me anyway, it’s not about “having to do them” but it’s the pop-ups and icons that clutter the screen when the whole point (for me) is to create and structure my own world. It’s a nuisance. The only reason EA doesn’t give us a toggle to remove these “challenges” (the same way we can alter aging or remove storms) is because they were both blatant attempts to market new paid content. That’s the salt rubbed in the wound.

None of the events have contained promotions for paid content.

Not resolved yet, no surprise. Stopped playing because of this design flaw with Reaper's whatever. Now, some holiday event has reared it's ugly head, uninvited, buggy and unwanted.
EA, you are missing the point here. Players want the ability to disable these events and NOT see the annoying interface clogging up screen. Essentially, there is no "opt out" option. Going offline is not a solution, it is a workaround. And in so doing, players would lose online functionality. So, Bravo!
$$$ I won't be purchasing Sims5

@jpkarlsen That is NOT a solution. It really doesn't help matters at all and players should have a choice whether they want the icons in-game or not. It would make a lot of sense if it was a check box, maybe something like 'Participate in Reward Events' that players could toggle if they didn't want the icons in their game UI. EA is being straight-up unfair to thousands of players and it's most likely gonna get worse in the future.

@jpkarlsenYou can’t do this if you’re on Xbox 🙂
But the real question is why should we have to? EA gives us the ability to change weather, aging, delete holidays, etc but we can’t opt out of these manufactured events? Why? Marketing, that’s why.

@jpkarlsen I didn’t say they contained paid content, they were tie-ins with the rollouts of new paid content. Grim Reaper was an obvious tie-in to promote the rollout of the Life & Death pack, and the Cozy challenge… umm did you notice the new Cozy Bundle? EA spends more time trying to persuade users to pay more money for this stuff than they do fixing all the problems they create.

I personally wouldn't mind a toggle to turn off the events entirely for the few that want that but the more free things I can get the better and at the same time have a little fun while doing the tasks. Regarding the Cozy event you seem to have forgotten what time of year it is. It coincides much more with that than a bundle in my opinion but you are of course welcome to have your own opinion. If you want to talk promotions the new purchase button in game fits much better than the events.

I never wrote it was a solution. It is only a workaround that can be used while the event is on.

@jpkarlsen WE ALL KNOW that we don't have to but that is not the point here! The permanent intrusiveness and huge advertising across the entire screen on most every game load AND the missing OPT OUT posibility from these events that lots of players care less about.
I've been playing The Sims since 2001 and what's been forced on us in this game recently has nothing to do with the actual purpose of the game that we once loved so much.
- CrypticKam9 months agoRising Adventurer@nickinbigd The rewards are garbage. PC players can download CC that puts these rewards to shame and cost nothing. Makes EA developers look like a joke! Let us opt out already!

Dear EA Developers
Wouldn‘t it be possible for there to be a seperate setting for the Events. In such a way that not everyone has this directly in the game, as many people don‘t want it. Special only for those who want to take part in these Events.
An Indie Development Studio does it that way too. - nickinbigd9 months agoSeasoned Ace@CrypticKam I’m not sure why this is addressed to me. I’m one of the users complaining, not defending EA. I wrote days ago I was taking a break from this game. EA has made me so frustrated

Exactly! This is super intrusive and I hate how this large icon looks in my UI. I shouldn't have to play offline to not see it! I want to have access to gallery when I play. We should just have an option to not participate. It's as simple as adding the "display events" or whatever toggle in the online settings. It's super simple. I hate that we can't.
