Ideas how to fix the terrible camera

Im playing with the sims 3 camera because its the only option to build and play. I tried the sims 4 camera but not being able to easily change the angle is like Im playing diablo or something.

The main problem is any lot with more than one level. The camera keeps jumping because its "tethered" to the ground level at the center of the screen or something. Building with that on a lot with multiple levels is a nightmare. Playing on such a lot isnt any different. The jumping is heavily interfering with actions, recordings and item placement.

A problem in build mode comes up when following a sim. Just now I had a sim on the ground level, followed him onto the second level and when I stopped following her the camera went down to the original distance to the ground. I fell helf a level to visualize.

Whats the response we got for years? Edit a file for the camera settings. Players should not edit a game file for improvement. Especially since its usually against the TOS to do that. And unless we enable write protection on that particular file, it tends to reset with each patch.

The result? The game ignores the lot level except on basements. There it uses the old settings again. And when changing the angle while operating on anything above ground level, it feels like an oversensitive camera movement because the camera angle only considers the ground level of the lot instead of where the cursor is.

An attempted solution:

- dont have the camera "jump" when the center of the screen is moving to a higher or lower level.

- improve the zoom function so we can zoom in as much as we want until we hit the ground like the camera when we hide the UI (which has a weird zoom that shouldnt be). That needs some adapting.

- for changing the angle have the game consider the level we are at, not the lot level. The game has a grid in build mode. The design of changing the camera angle should use that in game mode but there its invisible obviously. This would prevent the oversensitive movement of the camera when changing angles and the jumping in build mode.

Please, devs, with a plumbob cherry ontop. This would greatly improve the game on multiple levels. Pun intended.

Editing the file you need to change to improve your camera experience is not against the ToS and is very simple and easy to do. There are numerous posts online helping and recommending settings from other users. I personally would never lock the file in question, I think it's the VideoCamera.ini file, but simply make a copy before patching the game so I can replace it quickly and efficiently.

It's great that we can fiddle with the camera settings so much, that they are easily accessible, as it means we can tailor the camera to our own personal preference. I would encourage all regular players to do so to improve their game experience.

Its irrelevant if its simple & easy. Its not an actual solution to the problem I described. Its irrelevant that we can edit the file. We shouldnt need to. I dont need to do this in other building simulators. Its working perfectly there. But not here. Thats the problem!

I can easily access a broken glass on the floor too. But that doesnt change the fact that its shattered into a dozen pieces. Im asking for a better glass that doesnt shatter so easily and you are telling me the broken one is easy to access. How is that helpful in any way?

It's personal preference based on gameplay style and experience. The camera may not work for you but it doesn't mean it must be changed because you don't like it. You're providing feedback, not speaking for every single player.

And in the context it is totally relevant as to how easy it is to change. Some of us like to personalise our simming experience by editing the camera and graphics files, like an extended version of the in-game options. I get annoyed when other building simulators don't let me edit files.

You are not helping by making stuff up and ranting about irrelevant points and ignoring the actual problem.

False. Guides how to edit the unintuitive camera file nor the file itself are not easy to find or edit.

I didnt say "ewww, I dont like it", I described a problem and the problem from the half-baked "solution" people know about. So that was a clear lie from you.

Yes, Im providing feedback. About a problem you obviously dont understand because you cant adress it. I never pretended or suggested to speak for every single player. A clear false and irrelevant implication from you.

I never suggested to completely prevent players from customizing the OTHER settings that arent an issue. So another false claim by you because you dont understand the problem.

Other games dont need these changes because they have superior camera settings by default.

When you cant adress or remotely understand the problem, stay away and troll someone else. Having hero status doesnt excuse your behavior.

I fully understand but as this thread is going nowhere fast, turning into a personal attack, and derailing what could have been constructive feedback and discussion, I'll bow out now.

I think it would help if these files to change camera were added to the files readable by the ConfigOverride folder. It wouldn't be perfect solution, of course and it would be better if these options were added to the game Options, so, everyone can set them as they please, without the need to edit some file, not to mention console users can access them too, but at least it would've prevented rewriting the file every time there is game update.

Brilliant suggestion to add them to the ConfigOverride folder. Having the graphics files in there at the moment, as an option if the user chooses, is so accessible and easy to manage.

I was playing abit this week and wondered why the camera was jumping again. Turns out the latest patch reset the camera setting regarding IgnoreLotLevel, three out of four lines were set to false. AGAIN !

Yes, this is normal. As would a game repair. It notes that a change has been made so “fixes” it. Adding this game file to the ConfigOverride folder would workaround this.
