Infinite Loading Screen | With Mods, without Mods, and fresh game.

Device: Macbook Air, Apple M4 | 24 GB of Memory.

Old Saves: Had mods, yes... this started with those saves. I tested mods, removed them, tried to create sims and play... got stuck. I created one household with 7 sims successfully in that one (with the mods active)! I created a new household after, where I could not get the singular sim to even move in without it getting stuck on load.

Mods: Have been sorted with 50/50 method, cleaned, removed entirely (although, not the source of the issue). There are NO script mods, only CC. I have taken out that mod folder and allowed the game to produce new, empty ones with no better luck.

Reset Game: Yes. This was done twice (currently on my second attempt) and mods have NOT been added back into the game. I have also uninstalled + reinstalled the game once... and repaired the game VARIOUS times. Also attempted to use dx9, didn't help either.

Memory Leak: No. Nothing on activity monitor, no warning popups. There is also ample space in my system storage.

The Repeat Issue: When going into manage world, I can edit, move, and create households as normal, even upload them to gallery. But, when trying to go into or return to live mode, the game gets stuck on an infinite loading screen.

  1. I reset the game, tested a fresh save, got into live mode with one sim. Could successfully add a few more sims in manage world. Game proceeded to get stuck on loading loop when trying to play with household.
  2. Force quit, get single sim in the first household moved into a lot. Go into manage world, create a new household. 50/50 chance I would either get stuck after making the first sim OR have a repeat of no. 1 occur. This issue also happened when trying to add more sims to the first household, so no it was not exclusive to one lot or save.

TLDR: .... I can't use the manage worlds at all. My whole point of using sims is to have a few households of characters. I keep getting stuck in the loading screen when trying to play from the MW menu after I make a new sim (or household, after the first one has been made). This is not because of any mods, issues with the laptop, or because I have not reset/repaired the game.

I would really appreciate help with fixing the game to be any sort of playable. I had even tested my old saves in the first reset and it didn't change anything.

Your post has a lot of conflicting information in it. Did you use AI to write it?

"I tested mods" - How did you test Mods? What did you do?
"I created a new household after- After what? In your existing save with your Mods still installed?
"getting stuck on load" - which loading screen? After CAS? At the map screen?

"cleaned" - If you've moved out your entire Mods folder the 50/50 method is redundant. What do you mean by you "cleaned" your Mods?
"There are NO script mods, only CC" - CC is still 3rd party content unsupported in the game and can cause problems if a patch changes the game mechanics the CC relies on to work, especially CC items that have interactions.

"Reset Game" - How did you reset your game? People don't always understand what actually resetting the game means, please can you clarify what you did.
"Also attempted to use dx9," - dx9 is Windows only, what did you do here? Or are you playing the game in Windows through a VM on your Mac?

Which info were you looking at in Activity Monitor? A screenshot would really help here.

    1. You have added Mac and PC tags to your post, please clarify which operating system you are running the game in (see dx9 question).
    2. You have added a Loading Times tag. Are your loading times excessive when you do manage to load the game successfully?
    3. You have added a Crashing tag. Is your game also crashing or simply not loading?

No I didn't use AI to write this as I'm against it, I'm autistic and it was 2 in the morning. I apologize for the incorrect tags. The Macbook information is correct and is the system I'm running on. The dx9 attempt was by writing the command in advanced launch options in the EA app as I was trying anything to get the game to work.

I took all my mods out, checked to see if that caused the game to get stuck and found that they were not the cause (the issue still happened in vanilla game). I also made sure none were broken (by organizing via creator and only putting a few in at a time), and removed any that caused texture issues or were outdated. I know CC is still modifies the game, I meant that I had no mods (like WW, basemental, etc) that changed/added to UI or sim behavior.

When my screen gets stuck, it is leaving CAS when I've made a new sim to try and play in a household. So if I clicked play from the CAS menu after making a new sim in an existing household, I got infinite loading.

    I created new households in...

    1. My first attempt: Made 7 sims in first house, no issues. Began to get stuck when trying to make second household (which I was able to make after making sim, saving to gallery, and force quitting so I could quickly add that sim with no modifications in CAS). Repairing the game did not help nor did clearing cache.
    2. Reset my game by pulling out the mod, save, and tray folders for those attempts, clearing cache, restarting my computer, then opening the game. I made one sim (whatever was randomly generated first and unaltered), saved that one, then attempted to add another sim to the household. Every time I created one and went to play, the game would loop the loading screen.
    3. Reset, uninstalled, reinstalled. By this point I had also tried repairing the game a few times, and I did not add mods back in. The same loop is occurring. I made one household, somehow got two sims in (after various attempts). During this reply to get the AM screens, I clicked resume, tried to go to manage worlds from live, and got stuck with a looped loading screen there.

    My activity monitor is below.

Thanks. Great you didn't use AI. Unfortunately it's a growing trend with some reporting issues and makes it more difficult to help, simple copy/pastes without any really helpful info. Thanks for the further info, really helpful. A couple of things:

This is not properly resetting the game. A proper reset is starting with a whole new clean folder as described here -  [INSTRUCTIONS] How to troubleshoot and test a broken game | EA Forums - 11864548 Please give that a go and see what happens.

I can see in the Activity Monitor screenshots that TS4 looks fine but Google Chrome has multiple processes running. Whilst I don't think this is causing any issues with your game it wouldn't be a bad idea to quit Chrome and kill those processes if they don't quit when you're not using it. Chrome is pretty greedy and resource heavy for no reason and you don't want those processes to keep multiplying.

Thank you, I started the troubleshooting process by renaming the folder (and I made sure no mods changed or added files), opening a new save, creating a house and placing the sim. That worked until I got to the third sim where it got stuck.

The problem is, this happens with any sim, it's not just at a certain number of them that it gets stuck! I screen recorded the process this time, it's a google drive doc.  ( 1:41 is the problem)

I've also had this freeze happen when simply trying to go into manage worlds from live (as mentioned in the previous reply). There are no lastcrash or lastexception files from this happening. I tried to add more sims after the initial recording, and was successful up until the fifth sim. I recorded this instance as well, problem occurs at 0:38.
