Is the doctor career supposed to be so annoying?

I'm trying it now, and it just feels like it was designed to be frustrating instead of fun. My sim is up to level 6, with a maxed out logic skill, but I swear these tests fail more times than they succeed and it takes so long just to properly diagnose anyone. I finally got the treadmill test to succeed after failing at least 6 times in a row, which it was definitely more than 6 though I wasn't always counting. I had the "swab for sample" interaction fail at least 4 times in a row recently. My sim also seems to shock the patients a little too often when trying to take their temperature.

That mean interaction glitch isn't making things any better, because either my sim or the patients will randomly decide to act like total jerks. I just tried to queue the x-ray test, yet instead of actually doing that the game decided the patient should yell at my sim some more before ignoring my second attempt at queuing the x-ray test. I'm using a guide to help identify signs and symptoms, though most of the time the patients seem to show no signs or symptoms and just sit there.

Does this get any better as I earn more promotions, because right now I find this career irritating and repetitive. Does anyone have any tips or anything you could suggest to make it less tedious and annoying? If I was playing on PC I'd just use mods to tweak various aspects of it, probably even do it myself, but unfortunately I'm on Xbox since my PC seems to be having issues plus I wouldn't have access to Get To Work on my PC version anyway.

  • @daikoyu Yes you're right about smooth gameplay. It runs more smoothly actually when I've switched to a different Sim and returned to the retail lot to shop, rather than playing it as a shop. It's so bugged it's impossible. In fact I wish I'd just got a gaming PC instead of next gen console!

Yeah, what I usually do is queue up all the doctor stuff where he's checking patient things and while he's analyzing the sample I watch the patient and not him. (Both of my doctors are male, yes, I just realized that...) While he's doing his thing at the Analyzer the patient is swatting in front of their face, or clutching their stomach, or seeing stars, or whatever. I stll get it wrong sometimes but not as often as you might think. Also, if I can't narrow it down past two or three and have no idea I move on to another patient rather than guessing wrong.

Also, the tests the DM 😉 suggests are not necessarily the tests that will isolate whatever the patient has. I do more tests than the DM at upper left asks me to do. The Swab for Sample followed by the Chemical Analyzer seems to narrow things down a lot, but also some conditions have fevers and some don't, for example...

@valohim666 No, the police career is not different and the task always the same, I still love it. I normally ignore half of the task and my police officer goal is rather fight/seduce his co-worker. Sometimes he goes on patrol and fight new people. He has a long way to reach level 10 because he is very lazy and corrupt.

@simsplayer818Self the best gaming pc will not help if the game is full of bugs. Sure, PC player can use bugfix mods but should a modder fix the game? I don’t think so, I think modder should create wonderful things and not fix game bugs. A gaming pc is much pricier as a console so I can understand why player go for console + console player doesn’t need to care if a game runs, if you can buy it then it will run on console (I read Sims4 should work better on PS5, but you still have annoying vanilla bugs)

@xochiquetzl_xkvn I actually got into the habit of moving on to another patient if I can't determine an illness, and it's something that seems to have helped a little. I can not only ignore the patient whose illness I can't determine without risking a loss in performance, but if I still need to do daily tasks then I'm most likely going to need to move on to another patient anyway. The tip of watching the patients while using the analyzer seems like a really good idea, and I'm probably just too stupid to have thought of that which admittedly I am very stupid. Thank you for the tips, I appreciate it.

@daikoyu Aw man that stinks. I was hoping it would offer a little more variety. I guess I'll try it anyway, unless it involves a lot of social interactions then I'm not about to try it until that mean bug is fixed. I also agree with what you said about consoles and PC. I play on console now because my PC is acting up, but when I can play on PC I use a really old outdated version of the game without all the current issues. Even then I still have a lot of mods in place that fix issues, but I'd rather not have those mods at all. It's great that modders can fix some of the stuff that EA doesn't, but I completely agree that the modders should be doing other things and not having to fix the game.

Oh, one other question I thought of while playing earlier. If I don't do the daily tasks, how much of an impact will that have on my career performance? I've noticed that curing patients can really seem to bump up performance, so I had this idea that maybe I could focus on trying to cure patients and just ignore the tasks. It's probably a stupid idea, which is why I wanted to ask and make sure I wasn't hurting my performance.

@valohim666 If you add the Professional Slacker reward trait it won't affect your job performance if you can't or don't complete your tasks. Without it, I usually complete at least some of the stated tasks if I can to get the kind of average evaluation at the end of the day and avoid getting the terrible evaluation that does impact my career trajectory or I make it up the next day to avoid demotion. But the Professional Slacker reward is definitely worth it for these careers.
The police career is a lot of fun but something to watch out for is that crime scenes don't always clean up afterwards as they should, so you might need to pop into build mode later and delete the body outlines and fix broken equipment if it's a house you later visit/purchase. Also your most helpful reward trait here is the Observant Trait, it's invaluable when looking for suspects. It is a bit buggy but it's also fun. You may enjoy the suspect interrogation bit and get a kick out of the Evil police chief cackling away to themselves in their office. I keep waiting for them to do something Evil but so far it's just creepy laughter.

@simsplayer818 Cool thank you for that. I can't remember if my sim has that trait or not, but now that you mention it it sounds like it may be worth experimenting with it myself. I had one work day where I was just starting on a new job level, I had just earned a promotion the previous day, but because I managed to get lucky and cure multiple patients I earned another promotion with just one day of work. Seeing that just made me wonder if I could rely on curing patients for career performance and skip the tasks, then again if I can't cure any patients that plan would fail miserably.

The evil chief does catch my attention, even if you say they don't really do anything. The first thing it made me think of is a character on an old comedy show that I absolutely love. The character claims to be evil, along with his sidekick, but they're both just a couple of goofs. Not sure I like the sound of having to clean up after it though, that sounds a little crappy, though if it at least sometimes does it itself that might not be too bad. You do make it sound at least a little interesting, minus the bugs of course, so I'll probably give it a try once I get a better feel for the doctor career.

Thank you again for the tips and the info, I appreciate it.
