Looking for a laptop to play all packs on ultra settings

@EricSims04  An Nvidia 1050 should be able to just about manage Sims 4 (all packs included) on ultra graphics settings, at least under ideal conditions.  There are a lot of reasons your Acer might be running the game more slowly now, too many to go through without more information. But since you're ready to move on anyway, it sounds like there's no point.  And I can see how trying to play RDR2 on that laptop might not work out so well.

The Asus you linked would be great for Sims 4.  Yes, it's overpowered, but that's not a bad thing, especially if you like to multitask.  And other games would benefit from the faster card.

If you want another option, this one is $1,000 and has an Nvidia 2060.  While the card isn't that much faster than the 1660 ti in benchmarks, it's much better for raytracing, in case you want to play games that support it.  This laptop has a processor that's more powerful overall but a bit slower for gaming, although all current games should be more than fine.  The one drawback is it does only have 8 GB RAM, but you could get another 8 GB and install it yourself (or pay to have it installed) and still save money.

I can look at other stores too, but I doubt there's a better current price on the above laptop or an equivalent, especially when you factor in the student discount.  There are likely other equivalent options to the one you found for the same price though, in case you want to comparison shop.  Let me know.

@EricSims04  In terms of pure gaming performance, the i7-10750H will do better than the Ryzen 7 4800H, but the AMD will beat the Intel on other tasks.  In practice, this doesn't really matter for the laptops you're considering, because the graphics card will be the limiting factor, not the processor.  There are certainly plenty of CPU-heavy games out there, but the 4800H should still have no problem with ultra settings, so the question becomes whether the GPU can keep up.  My point was, even though technically the i7 is better for gaming, you wouldn't notice any difference either way.

I don't know why you're getting 30 fps in-game with the Acer.  My graphics card is a bit slower than yours but close, and I get higher framerates.  On the other hand, I've always tested in new saves with not much going on.  What kind of fps do you see if you start a new save and just have a look around?  That would help distinguish between system issues and problems with a save or your mods or cc.

If you still get 30ish fps in a new save, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

@puzzlezaddictYes it was a new save that I was playtesting in, eh maybe the average was closer to 40 but I never peaked above 60 and that never lasted long. Here are some of the highlights of the dxdiag let me know if you need more: ystem Manufacturer: Acer

@EricSims04  This could absolutely be an overheating issue, and if you'd like, I can explain how to do some hardware monitoring, or how to generate a log to upload if you'd rather have me take a look.  But I wanted to see the dxdiag first to rule out certain software errors that could account for the game running slowly and that wouldn't show up in hardware logging.  So please do attach the entire dxdiag, as in, the text file that's generated when you click "Save all information."

If you'd like to monitor your hardware temps yourself, GPU-Z is an easy to use, lightweight tool that will show the basic stats and workload for your card.  Hwinfo monitors everything, including a lot of stuff that you'd never need to look at, but it'll pick up the temperatures on any component that has a sensor.  Both are free.

If you want me to look at an hwinfo log, download either the installer or the portable version, which doesn't require an install and can be launched from wherever you want.  Restart your computer, and don't open any other apps.  Launch hwinfo, choose "sensors only," and click the icon that's a sheet of paper with a + sign to start logging.  Save the file to your desktop for easy access later.

Wait five minutes, then launch Sims 4 and play for at least 20 minutes.  Click the same button to end logging.  Then upload the log to a third-party free filehosting site and link it here.  Please leave it in .csv format, or if you use OneDrive to share, please compress it in .zip format instead.

@EricSims04  Nope, a dxdiag is safe to post on an open forum.  That's why we ask for it here (and EA explicitly supports users posting it), as opposed to something more detailed like an msinfo report, which does contain some info you might not want to publish.
