Mailbox always has "mail" to collect but nothing is there

This is still a problem. For me, when I choose the "get mail" interaction, I receive either a compost pile or a recycled trash pile in my son's inventory. I also get the pop up that they have collected everything from the mailbox, but the red flag stays out and the "get mail" interaction is still available.
