Oh, I'm... I was told as a child repeatedly that I have Native ancestry, but genealogical research isn't backing that up the way I would like. (You have to trace your ancestry to someone who was on the official reservation rolls to join most tribes, and I can't, although 23 and Me says I do have a small amount of Native ancestry.) But I'm very pro-Native and would like Columbus Day to be replaced with an Indigenous holiday, etc. I don't have to join a tribe to be an ally!
(The recent SDX drop of Challah and Matzah Ball Soup was more about representing me. 😉 )
That said, I took a lot of ceramics and weaving in college and was very inspired by and enthusiastic about Native pottery and weaving, especially of the southwest (although those Pacific Northwest Chilcat blankets are chef's kiss!!!). Since they seem to be doing American southwest, I have some hopes for Navajo and/or Pueblo influences. Some of my favorites:
Maria Martinez
Lucy M Lewis
My favorite weaving style comes from the Two Grey Hills area
(Also I am intentionally linking to museums because sometimes people underpay Indigenous people for their work and then upsell it in a gallery, and I support them being fairly paid for these gorgeous and labor-intensive creations!.)
