Need Help With Harvest Holiday Dinner Party

Hello everyone,

I just recently started playing the sims 4 again and created a new game with no mods.

Now, I admit... I am still a newbie to many aspects of the sims 4 activities they can get involved with... which includes planning a dinner party for the Harvest Holiday celebration. One of the objectives on this list to complete in order to make this event successful... is to get everyone to "listen" to the radio with your sim. Yet, when I had my sim select the radio, there was no option to get others to listen with my sim. I read there was a bug that this game had so many players were not able to achieve the gold reward because of this bug... but they somehow still had the option at least to get other sims to listen, though there was no follow through by the other sims at their event.

So, my question is... how do you get other sims to listen to the radio with your sim, if it had worked correctly and also, how do you get all the sims to drink together at the same time? I used the new one-tile bar and was surprised there was no option to serve more than one drink at a time or create a batch of drinks. So I had to get each individual sim at the diner party their own drink. By that time, most sims had already finished drinking theirs. LOL Thankfully, I still managed to get a silver reward, but it would be nice if I could have gotten the right options to win the gold.

Thank you all for any help or game tips for next time.

  • @wasikm007  I always create a group with my party guests (under the “actions” menu in social interactions) - this allows me to choose actions like “listen together” “grab a serving together” and “make drinks for group” in order to pass the tasks.

Parties can be a trial if you only control one sim there.  I learned a long time ago, that the easiest way to get gold for pretty much any party is to have at least 3 sims that I can control at the party.  In other words, use sims from the active household.  Three is usually enough as most of the parties have some tasks that requires you to do something 3 times or having 3 sims do something at the same time.  A few, like eating, may need 4, but otherwise for most things, 3 will get the job done.  In addition, when you have more than one active sim a party, the main tasks that require 10 or 12 interactions are much easier because usually, if any active sim does one, it will count towards the party goal, so the host does not have to personally do everything.  Some things still must be done by the host, but that is more the exception than the rule.

    Hope this helps.

@CGrant56 Thank you for your suggestions 🙂 . I started a new game with no mods per the suggestion of Crinrict for the sake of the latest Cozy Celebrations event. It was suggested this sim live alone to ensure greater chances of not having errors that may be sure to pop up as it has with the past events held. So, having multiple players here wouldn't work.

Plus, there is a game play where some players prefer having a sim who is not looking to settle down with any one sim or creating a family, but still loves to be around people to host events such as these. With this, it really isn't fair that the game requires multiple live-in households to host these events to get the gold reward. EA should have it set up for the host to meet all these requirements on their own, though it may be a bit more challenging.

But I'm still not clear what actions are needed to get multiple sims to listen to the radio at the same time. Was there supposed to be an action icon on the radio that wasn't there for me? And is there a way to create batch drinks instead of individuals when using the one tile bar? In games past, I didn't get into mixology, so I am unclear how these bars work, but thought I saw bartenders at clubs able to make batch drinks?? Or am I getting that confused with another sim series??

Yup, there are and @PipMenace nailed it.  I just forgot about it since I do the vast majority of my parties with the active household.  But if you form the host and the guests into a group using the Option they mentioned, you get those multiple sims "Do This" options when you click on things like a stereo.  I'm not sure on the 1 tile bar as I haven't used one yet but on the 2 and 3 tile bars, if you have a bartender, there is an option the host can use to order drinks for other sims.  And if your sim is the bartender, you can make a drink for another sim.  This may be the difference though between the 1 and 2 or 3 tile bars.  On the larger ones, you can just make the 3 drinks and let them sit on the bar and sims will usually grab them without you having to be specific as to who gets what.

    Hope this helps.

@PipMenace Thank you so very much! Ugh! I completely forgot about forming groups. I do that for outings when my sim goes somewhere with other sims, but never thought about using it for at home. Thank you and
@CGrant56 for all your help and useful answers! I consider both of them good suggestions to solve my questions.

@wasikm007 Just an update, I had just changed my aspirations today which required me to host a silver dinner party. I applied the group setting and all went without a hitch!

I also discovered with my recent mixology getting maxed, I was able to make drinks for the whole group at one time and with the one-tiled bar. With this, I got the gold reward! thank you everyone! 🙂
  • I usually try to skip goals that require multiple Sims doing something at the same time. I focus on completing the Main Goal and then doing things where I have more control. For example, if there's a goal to Have Sims Eat (0/3), I can set out a group meal and Call To Eat. If the goal is to Tell Jokes (0/3), I can tell all 3 jokes myself. There's usually enough goals like that to reach silver or gold.

If you have Get Famous, it also helps to wait until your Sim has a Great reputation. This lets you start parties with Bronze already completed, guaranteeing a successful outcome and making the higher levels much easier as well. The reputation boost also applies to dates.

@Sketch793Thanks to @PipMenace, when you set your guests as a group, it really helps to accomplish all your goals in a timely manner as your guests will all follow suit, which helps to ensure all goals are completed a lot more efficiently, as they will take the lead from the host of the event.

When I attempted the first dinner party, my sim did have a great reputation to start the experience off right. I made sure all her skills were high enough to host a good meal for the dinner, that she had a decent amount of charisma to open more choices for conversations, etc. but that was not enough... not without your guests cooperating.

For the first dinner party without the group setting, while some sims did come to dinner when called for the grand meal, the other sims were dancing or listening to the radio Other sims warmed their hands by the lit fireplace, or were busy conversing with each other while sitting on the couch or huddled in a group, and one sim actually drew a bath and soaked in my Sim's tub with a mud mask on her face! Plus my host sim sat and ate her meal at the kitchen table when some of the other guests sat at the dining room table. With the group setting, she sat at the dining table with her guests which made more sense.

When you are required to have at least a silver reward to complete these goals, having the group setting really allows your single sim to not only accomplish all them with one Sim alone if need be, you can also do so with less stress on you and your sim host. 🙂
