Owning and running a Café?!

Hey everyone,

I recently purchased several expansions and kits, as I had this idea of building a cool café for my sim to run and manage, just like a restaurant.
So I started with getting Get to Work, which turned out to be a mistake for this specific idea, since not only did I not had the actual coffee maker (from Get Together), but also it was just chasing clients with the tablet and selling them cakes and pastries, since the one option to run it was as a retail shop.

So after a slight disappointment, I went on and purchased Get Together. It even had a coffeeshop in the trailer and in its' world too!
I was super excited and ready to build up my storyline.
I even spent a good couple of hours building a beautifulcafé, and at the very last moment, right when I wanted my sim to purchase the place, it turned out that... sims can't own any businesses other than an actual restaurant or a retail shop. Huh?!

How odd can this possibly be, considering the fact that this game ALREADY has the 'technology' to run a place with employees, menu, closing and opening functions and so much more.
I feel like these packs need an URGENT update. (Also, clothing-and-hair-wise.)

Please make it possible to run a café just like a regular restaurant!

  • Dine Out is probably the closest to what you are looking for.

It's buggy, but allows you to run a restaurant, however you can select specific menu items and make it more of a cafe feel.

From memory, your sim can assist in service customers but otherwise you hire staff to work there.

  • @Shirel766   Hi!  I agree and added my "me too".  Sure, sims can own restaurants with Dine Out and I agree with @Thats_Me_Madz that this is probably the best workaround we have (without mods).  However, I would love if my active sim could be the chef AND owner.  I believe if you add a coffee bar, your sim can be the barista?  Similar to adding a bar to the restaurant, your sims can tend the bar when the restaurant is open. (Edit: If I remember correctly, your sims don't make money from tending the bar but I could be wrong.)  Sims can own a veterinary clinic AND be the veterinarian.  So, the same should be true for other businesses, like the cafe.  I also would like the option for my sim to own a bar AND be the bartender, or own a gym AND be a trainer.  As you pointed out, the mechanics seem to be in place, so it should a fairly easy change to make.  Thanks for sharing!

    Hey there!
First of all thanks for the reply and suggestion.

I do have Dine Out which I LOVE, yet it's just not making any sense to me that just because the place is defined as a "café" and not a restaurant, my sim can't purchase the place.
So that really bummed me as it should be a whole different business and gameplay that shouldn't be as complex.

I really do hope that perhaps EA will change that one day, as I'm not that much hyped about a simple cafe running like a restaurant with servers and chefs. Just a simple cafe that is already in the game, ugh!

    Thanks for the reply again!
  • @JonaO703 Hey there! Exactly. I've googled around and there is a workaround for this with a mod, I just hate playing and using mods as they're always getting all buggy, and rather restricting too. EA should totally offer a solution for this.
    Thanks for the reply!

@Shirel766 I actually have some hope for the upcoming stuff pack’s food stand to be, if not a cafe, perhaps still a bit closer to the desired gameplay than any of the current solutions.

There’s also the Dine Out Reloaded mod, if you play with mods, that I believe lets you play as the chef and have customers pick up their own food at the counter.

@Shirel766   I really do hope the team considers adding the option to buy other venues like the cafe.  I'll say a prayer to the Sims gods.  ;-)

In the meantime, you might take a look at the More Buyable Venues mod by LittleMsSam.  I know you said you prefer not to use mods because of the potential issues (and I don't blame you for that).  However, her mods are usually kept up to date and I think widely considered more safe than others.  I haven't used this mod so I can't really advocate for it but it looks really cool and I'm thinking about trying it at some point.  Anyway, I thought it could be something for you to consider.
