It does override base game weddings.
If you can and are willing to use mods, there are mods that let you throw a base game wedding with MWS installed, but the one I'm thinking of ("Dual Wedding System" by Twisted Mexi) basically has it so if you plan the wedding with your phone it's a base game wedding that happens immediately, while if you plan it on your calendar it's a MWS wedding.
