My solution is saving your current household (his son's family) and then put it back to the game again. This will delete the son's genealogy so you can't see the son having a father in the family tree.
In this way, you probably can add the sims back to the son's household and edit him (the vampire) as the father again.

But you will risk the son's career I guess, skill level and stats still intact though.

*Remember to back-up your file, I'm afraid if something goes wrong. Remember the cheat is cas.fulleditmode

@Chrissie1185 Hi! I'm glad that worked. I found the solution because I have the same problem a few days ago when trying to add Jenna's mother and father but only 1 of them can be the parent, turn out Jenna already has 1 unknown parent. The unknown family member will be gone from the genealogy tree once you re-put them into the world.
