If you play on PC, you can use MCCC to disable emotional deaths.

I agree that hysteria is way too easy to get.  I have a cheerful Sim who would get hysterical every time she was near her daughter because she had the playful "let the good times roll!" sentiment because... she likes her daughter.  Like, getting promoted at work would be a death sentence.  We used SO MANY DEATH FLOWERS before I just turned it off.

@kaddence123 , I think @xochiquetzl_xkvn has an excellent point here!🙌  While there was always a chance to die from laughter in The Sims 4, it seems that lately this is much more of a problem, and I suspect that the new Sentiments are behind it.   Do you have the same Sentiment (Let the Good Times Roll) that @xochiquetzl_xkvn  mentioned, or a similar one activated? 🤔

Other things I did for Hysteria:

    1. Try to Calm Down in mirror.

    2. Start a club gathering with a different kind of emotional tone (say, Focused).

    3. Eat Jungle Adventure mood berries. (Inspired or Focused.  Those mood berries SAVE LIVES and I planted them at home.)

    4. Get Eaten By Cowplant.  Er.  That's extreme, and you can't use it two days in a row, but it strips the Hysteria right off.

All that said, yes, I feel like Hysteria is happening SO MUCH MORE OFTEN, and it's partly Sentiments.  I don't have the laundry pack, but hear that if you have super happy Sims putting on warm laundry is also a death sentence.  ☹️

@kaddence123 Apologies for barging in here but the option to disable Emotional Death is in the MC Tuner module.

    1. Click on a computer

    2. Click MC Command Center

    3. Click MC Tuner

    4. Click Change Interaction Behavior

    5. Click Allow Emotional Deaths

    6. Click Disabled

@kaddence123  If I understand correctly, Hysteria is Playful +14.  (Mortified is Embarrassed +8 and Enraged is Angry +8, and both of those can also kill your Sim.)

Happy boosts positive emotions and dilutes negative ones.

So you have a Sim with a lot of happy going on:  high needs, beautifully decorated, ate a tasty meal, nibbled on some perfect produce, got promoted, newlywed, new baby, Club Gathering with the strongest camaraderie (+3 happy), etc. etc. etc.  (Maybe they're also Cheerful.)  If they're happy enough, a single Playful +1 will tip them over the edge into Hysteria.  You can get a Playful +1 from Sentiments, from them autonomously taking bubble baths, from putting on warm laundry, from watching something funny on TV... BOOM! dead. Or maybe they're slightly less happy but also a Goofball (and therefore get random playful moodlets).

So you need to either reduce the playful (try to calm down in mirror) and/or add an emotional buff that's more than the amount of playful (if Playful is +1, try for Focused +2, Inspired +2, etc.).  Mouse over the playful buff and check the number you have to "beat" and that will inform your strategy.

(For Enraged or Mortified, while they're talking themselves down in the mirror, that's when you start the club gathering with the Happy +3 strongest camaraderie instead.)
