Teeny-tiny, itsy-bitsy Portraits in live mode

To preface, I'm in the process of repairing my PC and couldn't do without The Sims so I installed the Base/Cats & Dogs on my 14 year old Windows 7 laptop! I've cut down the graphics to pretty much the bare minimum, I've not downloaded any custom content, and I did download a few mods - like MCCC, UI Cheat, , a few LittleMisSam mods and a few Twisted Mexi ones. I've also created a Save for Willow Creek with about 32 people. (BTW, I've already noticed the BS death issue in this little game that so infuriated me before. Literally every character has lost a friend. EA needs to answer for this...this is NOT the way I want to play The Sims.)

Anyway, the issue above is that I have a family: Mom, Dad, Infant and Baby. Mom is a cat enthusiast and has called the Adoption Agency to bring over 2 kitties. The person has arrived with the kitties, AND, unbeknownst to me because babies don't have a viewable status, my baby is aging up...and this is what happens.

The adoption is made and the portraits decrease considerably in size.

The baby ages up and the portraits decrease even further in size, so that they are barely visible. (A bit of an exaggeration but they are smaller than my little fingernail.

It should be noted that the result was the same when the baby aged up first before the adoption.

I tried aging the baby manually before inviting in the cat lady - same result.

I tried turning aging off and adopting with no change in the results.

After reading a post where someone had this same portrait issue ('18), I evicted the household then moved them back in from the Manage Households tab. It "fixed" the portraits until the baby aged up.

*Unfortunately, my game save happened after the adoption agency was called and, apparently, while the baby was in the way too long process of aging up so, while I have saved with the portraits "normal", I can't stop the kitty adoption evaluation.

I've also taken out those mods mentioned above and it also changes nothing. I've not yet repaired the game because I'm a player from the beginning (TS1) and repairing the game was never as easy as it is now and still makes me anxious!

I've adopted cats & dogs in other households prior to the last couple of days and nothing like this has happened. I have updated the mods in the past day but again, taking them out doesn't change the result. The only other thing I've done is to claim the 1st two items in that (silly) event.

Also prior to this, the adoption lady came and my Sim adults went to bed and she went home without the kitties being adopted. In the meantime, the baby aged up and Mom went in to hold him, etc. She had to go to the bathroom and she took him with her, sitting on the toilet with her infant hugged to her chest. She wouldn't get off the toilet, the game clock quit working, and I saved it to a crash save and closed the game. I mention it because it's weird but it also isn't the "save" file i've used to do all of the above.

So I'm guessing it's one of those weird glitches that occur if a certain set of circumstances take place that rarely do. I guess I'll try to repair the game and see if that fixes it, but I don't have confidence it will because of the whole adoption/aging thing. I may even try to quickly change households before the aging happens (again adoption lady already at the door) and see what happens. I'm gonna be peeved if none of this fixes it because, like I said, it's the only Sim save I'm playing in a world that I had to create from scratch just to keep playing TS4 while waiting for my "real" PC! But I did want to report it to see if anyone else had experienced anything like this.

Edit: I have WW but apparently I can't say that (says it's an HTML) in this post because it removes it and rejects the post.

Also, because my laptop is so old, I'm playing through Steam. It doesn't appear as though the repair game option is available. Since I had to do it so many times with TS3 and it was a very lengthy process through the registery, etc., I'm not going to bother with that. Ugh.

  • @columbia93 Please do a "vanilla" test: Drag the Mods folder to the desktop, delete the file called localthumbcache, open the game to test, and exit without saving.

@luthienrising Later. (It's a process to get out the laptop so usually do that in the evenings!) But I almost always delete "localthumbs" and always after updates, etc. I did move my "Mods" to the desktop as mentioned above. As I said, my Save file was created with the Pet Adoption person at the door and apparently the very long Aging process having already been in motion, even though I didn't know it. Because the Save is before the actual dvents, the portraits are normal seized when I open the game. They shrink significantly with each event...adopting & aging up.

I think my next step will be to switch households for 24 hrs & go back in to see what happens. I may even age a SIM up (if I have a baby) to see what happens, etc.

Sorry...doesn't seem to be.  So many things going on right now...I've kinda put this on the back burner. Trying to replace psu in a very, very small case and, lawdy, that's rough! If I get it done, this will likely be moot....but we'll see. Pls let me know where you move it and I can update in a few days either way. Thx a bunch.

@columbia93 I've moved you over to Game Issues. When you want more support on this, please add a screenshot of the issue. Thanks!
