TV will not upgrade even if the lot doesn't have any Off-the-Grid Traits.

Hello,

I am constantly having problems upgrading my Sim's TV. I have gotten the parts to upgrade, but that didn't fix the TV. I know that the obvious answer is t\o change the lot trait because it might be Off-the-Grid. I have done that with this particular household and they don't have any Off-the-Grid lot traits. It had a Wi-Fi trait. And by the way, the same issue goes for one of the media production computers. All my Sim could do is record something.

How do I upgrade a TV (With a lot that doesn't have Off-the-grid traits and still won't upgrade), and have it actually work in the game?

  • @SimSeeker   Hello!  Sorry you're having trouble with the TV upgrade.  Please give more details about what happens when you attempt the upgrade.  What options do you see?  Do you get any sort of error?  Any extra details will help us understand what might be happening.

Also, please tell us what platform you're using.  (Windows PC or Laptop / Mac / PlayStation / Xbox?)

    Hello,

I use my Windows PC when I play Sims 4.

I'll try my best to be as specific as possible. If that doesn't work then I will find a way to create a screenshot of it.

For the issue of upgrading the TV on a lot that doesn't have any Off-the-grid traits on it:

    - When I click on the TV most of the stuff is greyed out except for the Ratings and the Upgrade (I can't remember what else is not greyed out.

    - When I do click on Upgrade, I click on all the parts that it needs, and they get greyed out after I do. And that's about it. But when I click on the TV, I still get the majority of the channels greyed out.

Are the parts in the Sim's inventory? If so, how do I click those to fix the TV?

@SimSeeker      Thanks for sharing the extra info!  All of the upgrade parts need to be in your sim's personal inventory.

There are a couple things I'm wondering about your game.

    1. Do you have any mods / CC?
    2. What is your sim's Handiness level?

If you have mods/CC, you need to move the mods folder to your desktop and also delete the localthumbcache.package file located in the Documents / Electronic Arts / The Sims 4 folder before opening the game for testing.  Then open the game again and see if things are working properly.  Note: do not save your game with mods/CC removed.  You just want to see if the game works properly without them.  If that's the case then you'll want to test each mod / CC separately to find which one is causing the problem.

If you don't have any mods/CC, check to make sure your sim has the required Handiness levels. For Super Reception and Firaxium Wiring, your sim needs Handiness level 9.  For Better Components, you'll need Handiness level 8.  My sim has level 10 Handiness and he has 10 of each Electronic Upgrade and Common Upgrade parts. Therefore I see these options available for upgrading the TV.

Are you seeing something different in your game?  If so, please share some screengrabs so we can see what's happening.

    Hello,

I do have Mods and CCs. One of my Sims does have a Handiness Level of 10. The other one doesn't. And it's the other one that doesn't that has the parts in their inventory. I already know how to fix it. Thank you very much.

@SimSeeker   Okay.  I meant no offense.  I wondered if you were seeing what I showed in the image or something different.  The upgrade parts need to be in the inventory of the sim who is doing the upgrade.
