The problem with any feature like this in the game is that it may be added for realism but it becomes completely farcical. It's the same with the trolling of famous Sims. What you end up with is random mean messages and sometimes behaviour which is out of character for Sims we've created.
I no longer buy packs immediately now (after CoL) and give it a while for the bugs to be worked out. This kind of feature puts me off. It's not an over sensitivity for me, it's a trigger. For anyone who has suffered brutal bullying it's not a cool addition. As a young girl, a boy at school broke a bone in my back and I later had what's been described (by a counsellor) as hardcore bullying by someone in an office which caused me to leave a job I loved. It's not a fun option. I play the Sims for entertainment.
We have the control to create mean Sims and carry out these actions if we so choose, and a choice is exactly what it should be. I have a glitch already in my game where Sims can't stop being mean to each other, which I've already reported. These are Sims that usually get along, good Sims and loving families but if I'm not controlling them at the time they start scrapping. Even if I am controlling them it sometimes pops up on their queue to be mean and I have to stop it.
With famous Sims they get a barrage of mean troll messages, a feature which keeps returning so I have to keep purchasing a quirk remedy to get rid over and over. Messages, again from good Sims or from family members I've created. It makes it unrealistic.
So I hope this feature is tempered or it's going to put me off buying it later in the year. I'll be watching this space. The direction the game takes should always be in our control. Some of us want to create a space without the brutal behaviour we've witnessed in real life.
After all, this is a simulation game which already has real life consequences in it. Sims get electrocuted, they get power turned off if bills are late, they get sick, they get sad. So some mitigation and consequences would be appropriate here and they shouldn't have to just turn everything off. The game needs light and shade obviously but this is a new addition at a time when we are trying to be more aware of the weight of this topic. Even our celebrities are trying to tell us to take this seriously by explaining what trolling does to them.
