I ended up turning it back on long enough for my chicks to age up, then turning it off again. They seemed to be chicks for a very long time.
(I know that's not a definitive answer. My subjective impression was no.)
@Kaycee144 I think the lifespan of the animals in Cottage Living will coincide with the lifespan of your Sims. I.e. when you choose short your Sims all the animals around them, this is valid for cats and dogs, will also have a short lifespan. In that case the other animals in Cottage Living will probably have the same lifespan. I think it will have the same effect as with your Sims, when you turn aging off, your Sims will not age anymore (they can still die, but not of old age)
So, when you turn aging of for your animals, they should not age like the information in the pack settings. To have them age manually you would need a mod. The current mods I have seen are not affecting the chickens, cows, or lamas.
Have fun playing. 😉
If you turn ageing off for animals your baby chickens will not grow up.
I think you can indeed best put again up for a bit until they are grown up and then turn it off again.

I wish there was an "age up" treat for chicks, like they have for kittens and puppies in saves with aging off.
- asimplisticsim4 years agoSeasoned Novice@xochiquetzl_xkvn Yes, this would be great! I always play with aging off but I'm afraid if I turn it back on to age up my chicks, my rooster and hen will die

That's what I've been looking for. I also haven't found a mod or cheat that gets them to grow up. I'll try the turn on aging to see if it works, but am going to save before trying it in case any of my Sim's other animals die. She's got horses, mini goats, and a dog.
