You Freed the Cupcakes, Free the Rest!

The recent update added base game cupcakes to the regular cooking menu. This is awesome!

However, many food items from Get to Work are still trapped within the confines of the cupcake machine. Can these items PLEASE be added to the regular baking menu? If you freed the cupcakes, please free the rest!

That's ironic because for me, the cupcake machine is already a useless object. I've literally never used it, and this is the first time I'm even learning that you can make anything besides cupcakes with it, lol. It would be a heck of a lot more useful for players like me to be able to bake those other things in an oven instead. On the other hand, if they freed all the recipes, there's nothing stopping someone who is still inclined to use the cupcake machine for storytelling reasons from using it. I honestly don't see a downside to freeing all the recipes. I look at it like having bathtubs and showers in the game. They'll both get your sim clean, but you can still choose which one you'd prefer to have in your sim's home or which one to use at a given time.

Seconding this. I have been using a mod for a smaller cupcake machine since it was made because if you live in an apartment, owning the cupcake machine for baking is just unfeasible. I already never used it, on purpose. But console players don't have that option, so I really hoped they would free the rest of the baking skill recipes too, for their sake. What's even more annoying is that by going back and tweaking them to use other pack ingredients, they had to have noticed that they were still locked to the giant machine, right? But if they intentionally want to keep some of the recipes cupcake machine exclusive only, can't they communicate that to us?

  • I also really REALLY want the other recipes freed.

Cupcake machine is fun for building industrial builds and stuff but I really want to have a baker sim who can bake out of their apartment and for home baking those cupcake machines are ridiculous.

I also think that baked goods like cakes, cookies, bread etc should all come under the baking skill not the cooking skill. Like it would make there be an actual point to mastering the baking skill because you could make better birthday or wedding cakes. It would also mean you might want to order a cake instead of make one of your sim is good at cooking but not baking and doesn’t have time to master the skill. It gives the game more layers.

If you have the get to work pack the base game baked goods should really all come under the baking skill. It’s one of my biggest pet peeves in the game. It’s also an example of terrible pack integration.

I wish they'd do this too. I keep adding basements and utility rooms for the infernal cupcake machine. Sometimes you just want a cute little cottage for a baker but they have to fit in this ginormous contraption. They lose fun very quickly while using it too, so my Sims are telling me they don't like it either...I don't always listen to their complaints but this time we agree!🧁

@PandoraTO good point about how we have both showers and bathtubs in the game!  And for those who have Laundry Day Stuff we also have a washer and dryer as well as a wash tub and clothesline! 😉

@CCuteCCabaret , good point about console users! 😥

@simsplayer818 , since it has been a while since I last used the cupcake machine, I had forgotten that your Sim loses fun rather quickly when using it!😓 Thanks for reminding us!

@maddinwritestuff , Yes!!!! It always bothered me that we would "cook" a birthday cake, and not use the baking skill to make it! 😫I understand that the baking skill was introduced with Get to Work, but it just seemed counterintuitive and downright odd!🤔 It is somewhat comforting to know I'm not alone! 😅

Yeah, the problem with moving all the baked items to the baking skill is that the baking skill is from GTW. People without the pack wouldn't be able to "cook" a birthday cake anymore, for example. The only other option would be to make the baking skill base game, but that's a non-starter (from EA'a perspective) since that would devalue GTW somewhat.

@PandoraTO I’d actually be okay with them making the baking skill base game. All the cool GTW recipes would still be locked behind the pack so if anything it might encourage people to get the pack to expand the baking skill. Plus it would just make so much more sense to “bake” a cake rather than cook it. Some of the gourmet treats that would make sense to be baked could be obtained at very high or max level baking skill.

It’s just really annoying for me to see the bake and cook options not make sense. Plus with stuff like cottage living you could bake your bread if you are simple living so simple living sims would probably need more baking skill then your average sim. It would just add so much more interest and challenge.

See, I actually don't mind the food being split up into different skills. I don't even mind the idea of needing a separate appliance for some of these recipes. And I don't even mind the weird aesthetic of the cupcake machine - it's purely a size thing for me. It's impossible to include it in apartment builds in a way that looks normal even by sims 4 standards. If they could give us a smaller one that maybe looked more universal, I would be happy with that, if they can't let us have the recipes in the oven.

Although, for some things like muffins, it looks even worse now that cupcakes are oven-enabled but muffins somehow aren't.
