Some of my Sims have had some very rocky romantic encounters that have let to some quite embarrassing yellow state. I don't mind this because I like it when my Sims choose their own romance or even when other Sims choose my Sims. But sometimes I just like to make the choice. So. What do you do when the Sims are being a bit calcitrant? How do you set the mood so to speak?
I'm sure they've tweaked it a bit. I'm having a harder time too. I still do all the same things though if they are easy prey. I put out romantic aura stuff if handy and just go for it. Flirt, ask if single, compliment... Don't confess attraction too soon and don't use the normal pick up line... If your sim gets confident use the bold pick up line for sure. Then I have them sit with my sim and use most of the other interactions that are available then. If they get a rejection I usually go back to non flirty interacions to bring up the friendship a bit then send them home to flirt another day. If your sim is tense, uncomfortable or embarrassed they seem to fail easier. I don't even bother now with unflirty sims.. way to hard. Married sims can be harder depending on traits. If they are uncomfortable make them comfortable, happy ect.. It can work sometimes but it's pretty likely to go wrong.
Also have your sim watch the romantic TV station on till they get the flirty mood. This will help them chat up other sims. Having the sim you want to flirt with watch the station with you is also a good idea.
Well, my current sim never find it difficult since she is a scientist who can always reach for her infinite supplies of flirty serums. For other sims, I find it easier to set up the encounter in an enclosed room with an incense burning nearby (with the Sandalwood scent). Maybe you can research pick up line before your person of interest arrive? And remember to soak your sim in a Rose Petals bath in advance to get that charm going, and try on some outfits in front of the mirror to stack up the moodlets.
Don't rush it! It's better to have two sims become friends and develop a solid green bar first before attempting any romantic interactions. It's almost always a guaranteed win, unless their treats clash too much (which doesn't happen too often in this game from what I've noticed)
If the conversation goes from casual to awkward (it can do this even if your last interaction was successful), then you should go back to friendly interactions until it goes back to casual, or even better, pleasant.
Same thing if you do a romantic interaction and you notice that it goes down from suggestive conversation to casual discussion. That means you should go back to friendly interactions until the conversation is pleasant again, and then switch back to romantic ones.
Also, never do your flirting in a group conversation. Romantic interactions ALWAYS make the conversation turn awkward in a group conversation (I guess to be more realistic?)
Oh I've always just let the game pretty much decide who he has relations with. Every sim I have ever made for him, there was just zero connection. Heck even with sims I have made just to have as friends. I just always make sure he has the alluring and beguiling traits. I have a few lots that have aura objects in them that I are always enabled or have incense to set the mood. All the restaurants serve the cookies and romance drinks. Shinya always has a fresh pot of steamy ginseng tea and romantic music playing. He also keeps heart shaped cookies, Cupid Juice and Love Potion #4 fully loaded in his fridge. All the restaurants serve the cookies and romance drinks as well. Shinya dosen't pursue anyone. I just use objects to set the mood for the hunting ground lots and let things fall where they may. If there is a Sim I want him to meet and they are just not showing up at those lots, I use the teleport any sim mod to bring them there so he can introduce himself.
I always seem to make my first romantic interaction the one where they are playful.. 'flirty joke' I think it is. Seems to be a good ice breaker and does a fair bit of pink right from the start. Then I'll calm them down and get them flirty from then, it just always seems like a little kick start for things.
As long as neither Sim is unflirty, I just spam flirty/friendly options over and over and they're together in a few minutes time. :D It's been awhile, so maybe they tweaked it, but I never had any troubles for the most part. My main Sim seduced every female townie she came across, and their relationships with others were largely irrelevant, lol.
