Can a surface pro 4 run just the base game and like one pack?

Hi! I’m traveling this weekend and the flight from Ohio to California is long so i wanted to just throw the base game and maybe a game pack or expansion onto my surface pro. It’s the 128 gb( I’ll probably delete it after ) and the i5 with intel graphics. How big is the base game rn and could i run on like low medium or what’s the best idea? I don’t wanna hurt my surface i just got it for college. Any advice is appreciated :)

  • I heard it plays the Sims Medieval but I do not know if it can play any of the Sims series games. I tried to see if it has shaders but could not find info on that - as the Sims series all need shaders. Your best bet is check with Microsoft - they could surely answer your question I would think.
  • I wouldn't recommend it if you don't want to hurt it. You will live without The Sims for the weekend. XD
  • Don’t waste your time contacting Microsoft.

This website (only works on Windows) will tell you if your system can run whatever game you select. Since the surface pro 4 closer resembles a tablet than a laptop I’m not sure if the game will run consistently. Installing should not be an issue since the SP is basically running a full Windows OS, so I say give it a go before you leave. Be mindful of the device though, playing Sims 4 on it will produce a lot of heat and I’m not sure the surface pro is designed to expel it like a computer.

As for settings I recommend starting with everything on low and laptop mode enabled. That’s the lowest settings configuration possible for the game and that will be your bottom line to know if it will play.
  • My surface pro 3 is 4.5 years old and the game with all expansions, game packs and stuff packs is only just NOW starting to not run properly. If it is close to new, it'll work perfectly. Just turn all graphics down to medium and enable laptop mode!
  • You'll likely need a good graphics card, memory and a good CPU. These mobile devices like Laptops and tablets aren't really designed for heavy game usage, neither to their have the battery for more than a few hours. Tablets have the problem of not having any ability to passively cool down, so when it is being really used, it will get really hot to the touch and that does no good for the components inside.

Unless you got a good gaming laptop and those aren't cheap to get, otherwise i agree with what others are saying, no sims for the weekend.
  • I have one and all expansion packs but seasons and island living and it runs fine. What you want to do sounds workable. Mine never overheated or gets hot to the touch and I play 2 to 3 hour sessions.
  • My Microsoft tablet could technically run PC games too but I would never do that. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Tablets are not built to deal with the amount of heat and stress this game will put on that computer. If you still want to risk it anyways for the weekend, drake_mccarty has the right idea. All settings on low with laptop mode on.
