Can change traits but sim still gets tense from old trait I removed?

So I don't see anyone else talking about this so lets say I want to edit a sims traits, either my own or the pre-made ones. I switch out a trait for something else, but when I resume playing that sim, he/she will still get tense from the trait that I removed. Or even if it doesn't cause a tense mood the game will still recognize the trait that was removed instead of the new one. Anyone else experiencing this?

  • I had that happen with two Sims that I changed traits on. I don’t remember what the traits were, but I noticed that they would get emotions that said the source was from that trait or whims from that trait.

I think that when a Sim gets assigned a trait from creation or being born in the game, it must have a deeper connection in the system. I just ignore it or cheat out an emotion and keep moving on.
  • Sadly that’s been a ‘bug’ for years. The easiest solution is to cheat the moodlet away

The only way to get rid of it (that i know off), is to give the sim a twin in CAS and then delete the old sim. But imo, that’s too complicated with already played sims, so i only do it with sims i downloaded from the gallery
  • If you use this cheat after you change the trait in CAS and return to live mode, your sim will stop getting the buffs from the old trait.

In order to cheat traits, you must first bring up the console by pressing Control + Shift + C. Do it all in one fluid motion with your keyboard. Playstation and Xbox players can do this by pressing all four shoulder buttons simultaneously.

Once the console (a white box in the upper left corner) is open, you can now type in commands.

Use traits.equip_trait TraitName to add a trait to your Sim, or

    traits.remove_trait TraitName to remove them.

Note that if you have trouble getting one to work you can attempt to put trait_ before it, such as traits.equip_trait trait_DogLover.

    Cheat found here: https://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/traits/cheats.php
  • The "safest" way to remove traits, is the Re-traiting potion. If the traits are cheated away, you'll likely have residue which will give the tense/whatever moodlet from the removed traits. I've not had any problems with the potions.
  • I've noticed that even lot traits have this issue now. Whenever my sim calls someone on the phone she gets off the grid moodlets, even though I removed the lot trait after a single day and I've played 6 simweeks by now.

The best way to prevent that is to only remove traits with the reward potion or by using the traits.remove_trait cheat. Never remove a trait in CAS after the Sim has been played, that's what causes this to happen.

To get rid of the problem after it's already happened, use the traits.equip_trait cheat to put the problem trait back on them (cheat away one of the others first to make room), and then remove it again with the traits.remove_trait cheat instead. I had to do this with one of my Sims who was stuck with effects from the Active trait after I replaced it in CAS. And ever since then, I've only removed traits using the cheat and never had any problems with leftover moodlets.
If you don't want to use cheats, the re-traiting potion should work just as well but you'd need two of them, one to re add the unwanted trait, and another to properly replace it.
