scroll a bit down and you will see a comment from a guru that tells some things that cause lag. the thread is a bit old but it's still relevant as none of these bugs have been fixed, and there's still a lot more

Enabled my GEForce Experience and my FPS ranges from 44-61

I have no lag and play on the game's highest settings, despite using giant lots with tons of objects, but I'm fortunate in that my computer has great specs.

Edited to add:
I think deleting cache files and using MCCC and other mods that catch errors help my game run smoothly.

My system has similar specs and I also have experienced lags.
In my case, switching the display mode from "full screen" to "full screen window" did the trick.

How much free space do you have on your hard drive?

If you don't have enough (more than 10GB, ideally at least maybe 20GB) you may get lag spikes as the game tries to deal with temp files.

My computer used to play just fine with no lag, even on large lots with lots of furnishings on them. It started to lag and be non responsive after Eco Lifestyle and after Nifty Knitting I get non responsive message whenever I access Build/Buy menu. I don't know if I can add more RAM in it, as it's a laptop. I have no mods or CC installed.

I don't know much about computers, but I have a gaming laptop with these specs:

I guess this laptop is not good enough to play Sims 4, because I have a terrible lag. The game is almost unplayable about 15-20 minutes from the start. The game is stuttering and lagging so much that I can't play, I just let my Sims do whatever they want and wait for the worst stuttering to go away, but the lag always stays.
The loading screens are quite fast though (about 30-60 seconds, sometimes even less).

I use mostly medium graphics with no laptop mode on. I will soon have to turn low graphics or laptop mode on, I guess. :/
I don't use mods or CC.

Lag sometimes in Live Mode but nothing serious, I have started to get heavy lag spikes when I am exiting build mode and I have noticed that other game changers have the same problem so I think the problem could be with the game. Zooming in and out with the camera sometimes fixes it.

I have also noticed that Seasons can drag performance down significantly if you have snow or rain.

I also try to avoid having lots with many mirrors as they also decrease performance. And I often rebuild my lots to avoid simulation lag which happens when the same sims try to use the same objects.

Getting rid of NAP's and using mods to reduce the celebrity reactions helps too.

I have pretty much similar setup than @simgirl1010 has, just with lots of mods in.

I had zero lag before ECO, but after it I have had pretty often "lag spikes" like @logion mentioned, but in both when getting in and exiting build mode. My fps is usually over 60 , but then it can drop even below 20 or 10. Like @MaggieMarley said, it goes back up right away after bringing up game options panel.

I play on ultra settings. I use MCCC and UI Cheats Extension. I have no CC for CAS or build mode. I have all the packs installed.

I play offline unless I access the gallery. I use the options menu in the "Other" tab to go offline. I have windows in Game Mode to stop background tasks while I play. I clear in game notifications since Eco. They cause lag now if I let them build up. I don't have lag (stutter) while playing if I do the things I mentioned.

It only lags going into and out of build mode since the patch right before Eco came out. I pause the game before going into build mode. It takes about 30 secs for build mode to load. Before it seemed almost instant. It takes almost 40 sec for the game to respond after leaving build mode. An another 20-30 sec after I take the game off pause for me to be able to interact with the game.

While in build mode I place an object and it clunks now and my mouse sticks to the object (lags) 2-3 secs. Build mode is now cumbersome with the some new sound effects.

If my Sims travel the loading screen time has increased from about 10-20 sec to about 40-50 sec. I have MCCC set to pause the lot when loading so once my Sims land and I take the game off pause it takes 30 to 40 sec for the game to respond and Sims start moving. Before it was almost instant.

Setting the game to lower settings does not help the lag I do have on Ultra settings.
