Giving them a job without playing with them?

I want to change what sims are the neighbours without having to play with all the families. You know, just move the old ones out, create new ones and move them in. But then my town is filled with sims that are unemployed and has no skills! Can I somehow make them have skills and/or jobs when I create them?

  • Try playing them to give them a job. Then, go into manage households and move them into the other households tab. I don’t know if they will develop skills or not though. You probably edit that stuff in CAS full edit mode, but I have never done that. I have noticed that some of my sims end up with a job by themselves...... mixologist, bar tender, yoga instructor, to name a few that I have seen. Someone else could tell you how to edit those things I’m sure though.
  • The game does assign careers to unplayed sims as needed as well as the NPC roles like buskers. But, I do assign careers and skills to townies for storytelling purposes in my games. I cheat them.
  • MCCC is amazing for this if you don't mind mods. I think you might need to go into the household to click on the sims, but you can set skill levels, give jobs, set promotions and set relationships and strengths all just by clicking on them. I do this a lot when I place my random neighbourhood sims

Is there a regular cheat or is there a mod? I had mods in TS1 but haven't in TS2 (skipped TS3) and for TS4 I figured I might wait until they are done releasing packs, and then decide on whether to get mods or not.

The best mod I know of and use to do what you’d like to do is MCCC. It’s a very powerful tool and I love it. Also the creator keeps it up to date providing updates in a timely manner when the game gets patched.

  • Creating a sim by CAS story mode, assuming you get the right answers to the right traits and aspirations you are looking for can potentially give you what you seek, those household members can start with advances on a few of their skills and some could have jobs as high as level 3 that are relevant to the traits you have. so instead of a locker room attendant, your sim automatically has a team mascot position in athletic career as an example. another would be assistant to the manager instead of mailroom technician in business career. it could also be possible to get more starting credits then usual.

Now MCCC can assign careers to random NPC households without any input from you if you got those settings sorted, otherwise you could intervene directly by cheating a career promotion, however it can't allow you to choose your career, you have to select one from your phone first and then using MCCC to promote. It is powerful but not that powerful a modification as there is room for improvement. Base TS4 on it's own is almost hands off on your game play, other than autonomy actions, it does very little of anything else.

... ok but now unplayed sims in my game are spell casters which just ruined my storytelling. I wanted the buy build stuff from the pack not the game play. I want to be able to turn off game features. I was willing to tweak my story. Not a problem until I saw NPCs in the magic realm. Just any tom dick and harry can go there. Now it's not special anymore. I remember steps being involved to go to the alien world and other hidden places. Realm of Magic is not what I expected. It's too easy and not special if every Sim is a spell caster. Worst experience since mermaids. The game does not assign careers or let unplayed sims build skills then why are they in the magic realm as spell casters? I checked. In my save I never played the Goths and when I switched to them they were spell casters.

With MCCC you can also cheat them some skills, too. I love this mod.
