I tried to do a search and couldn't find a topic on this so I hope I am not breaking the rules posting this. Anyhow, I very rarely have a save that I play long term as I get bored easily. Lately though I hit upon a game which I am enjoying. I have played it for about a week so far real time, and last night the game wouldn't save said error code and gave a long number. So I tried to roll back to an earlier save, but that didn't work as I got the same error. Here is the situation. I do have a couple of mods mc command center, ui cheats extension, and the national bank mod I have had these for a while and all are updated. I do have cc but have had it for a long time. Anyhow I have a female sim who used Don Lothario as a sperm donor, and she had five children. After they aged into toddlers, she got pregnant by alien abduction and had four babies. After Don's kids became children the four alien children became toddlers. My sim who gets abducted on a regular basis lol, came back again pregnant with 6 babies. I paused her pregnancy so I could age up Don's children into teens and move them out leaving the four current alien babies as children in the house. All is good so far. After the teens aged up, I moved them out, and then continued the pregnancy leaving the mother and the four children in the house. I saved a few times no problem after that. Then the babies were born and the next time I tried to save, I got the error code. That is when I tried to recover the save but didn't work. I am so bummed as I was having fun. Luckily I saved Don's children to my library along with the four alien babies and my female sim who was pregnant at the time with the six alien babies into the library before the corruption occurred. So I am going to put all of them into a new save. I know you shouldn't use save as for a long time, and to occasionally do a new save which I try to do, but is there anything else I can do in case when I start this new game it gets corrupted again? I should mention I do know about clearing caches and I did that before the game got corrupted.These alien children are turning out so pretty in disguise and out of disguise. I want to see how these other six turn out, but no point if every time I play and they are born the game gets corrupted. Best thing I can recommend for you to do, is take your family into cas.fulleditmode and save them to your library. This will keep their skills intact. Then you can open up a brand new save and go from there. Since you mentioned you have and use MCCC, you should be able to hunt down the friends they have in the current save and reestablish their relationship. It's under Sim Commands>relationship. He was my Rock Star to be and was for a short time before things went south on me. Had to start him all over from scratch! aside from saving everyone to the gallery then using mccc to reconnect anyone outside the house you can also try a save as all it does it let you make another copy however it may fix bugs for a bit if you want a quick fix. I back up my saves and tray folders frequently -- once a week minimum, plus before every patch. That way if I do run into an issue I can restore my game from the backup and hopefully don't lose much gameplay or my Sims/builds. Some people suggest using Save As... instead of Save and choosing a new save name, or deleting the localthumbcache.package file before playing. I've only had one issue with a corrupted save, and it wasn't an error code that showed up but rather festivals were no longer spawning (I'd get the notification, but when my Sim went there no festival objects or events showed up. I don't think I've had a single error code event in my game.)

I always tend to use save as as an option instead of save, but I heard a while back it wasn't good to do that a lot, so I started trying to use just save more, but still have that habit of using save as more than I should I think so I don't know which way is best as it happened to you doing it the recommended way. Best thing I can recommend for you to do, is take your family into cas.fulleditmode and save them to your library. This will keep their skills intact. Then you can open up a brand new save and go from there. Since you mentioned you have and use MCCC, you should be able to hunt down the friends they have in the current save and reestablish their relationship. It's under Sim Commands>relationship. Oh I didn't know that using save as might fix it, because I was using save as initially and then went to save when I remembered people saying that was better, but so used to using save as I tend to forget and use it more. I always initially for sure starting a new game use the save as,

What does backing up the tray folders do? Does stop corruption or is that just in case your game gets corrupted and you have a way to retrieve them besides the library? I have heard the opposite that save is better, but while from time to time I did use Save as in this game, I was using save more and maybe that was what did it lol. But Galaticgirl said she used save as and then afterwards just save and she got a corrupted game.

Thank you for that suggestion. I am going to start doing that. Don't know why I hadn't thought to do that before about backing things up.

I have no children from Don Lothario, I think, and e.g. Nina Caliente is long gone from old ages.
One positive option from a save with many played household is the option of children visiting other households when coming home to an empty lot, by the way.

Well you are so fortunate then and I am so glad you haven't lost a game to corruption. This isn't the first time, it has happened a few times before, but never cared enough about a family in that situation to let it bother me. I just started a new game. Teach me for trying to play a long term save as I had intended to play them for the foreseeable future. If I play a game for more than 2 weeks real life time it is a lot. Figures it had to happen with this family lol.

Thank you for your trying to help. I agree about the positive option aspect about children visiting other households.

My saves never got corrupted and they are pretty old saves, I keep many mods and left the outdated mods still loaded sometime if it doesnt cause many issues, but I did get it few times in sims 3 to the point I had to save as multiple times in one session just to avoid losing the progress.
