Personally, I like the Game Pack treatment for Occult lifestates in TS4. I can have my Spellcasters and not be bothered with Vampires (which frankly do not interest me at all). I am happy to wait on Werewolves or Fairies if it means they get a dedicated pack to develop them distinctly. Things take time. I can be patient. Folks have apparently wanted a farm for a while.
See I like this too, and it is the ultimate toggle. Don't want vampires in your game?? Don't buy the pack, which means you'll have to miss out on the BB/CaS items, but hey, tough cookies. It's what people have been doing in The Sims for years, don't like a theme? Don't buy it. simple.- LiELFSeasoned VeteranYeah, the overall Occult presence has really been getting shafted. In the beginning of Sims 4, a rep from Maxis actually tried to say that Supernaturals weren't a staple of The Sims. Um, hello? Sims 1 had an entire pack called Makin' Magic and had a lot of quirky supernatural stuff. But it had me thinking that they had never intended to go the Occult route in the beginning. I mean, are you going to tell me that spas are a staple? Because we got that pack before we got Vampires. It could be argued that anything not in Sims 1 isn't a staple, which is just silly.
I honestly feel like most of the Occults we have are excellent, for what they are. But the Plant Sims...my god. They're so lame. It's like they were thrown to the interns, worked on for an hour, and tossed in as is. The Spellcasters should most definitely have been an EP with extensive magic, expanded effects and paths, and more interactable Familiars, but I still adore them. And the Mermaids should have had an underwater lot with some sea-themed furniture. I don't think they need too many more powers except maybe communicating with the fish in the game and being able to name them and keep them as pets. I just don't see Mermaids as beings with an exorbitant amount of power. But, again, I really love them.
Paranormal was awesome except I don't understand why we didn't get a Ghost overhaul so we can create them in CAS and play them and have them be more... "ghost-like". I still want to see that happen.
As for new Occults, Werewolves are at the top for me. I would love Fairies too, but I want them to have more of an edge to them and have some of the Unseelie elements. Genies have been a Thing since at least Sims 2 so where are they? They wouldn't have to be on the scale of the others. And what about Zombies? In Sims 2, if you tried to raise a Sim from the dead there was a potential botch where the Sim would come back as a Zombie. I don't think we need the plant-eating variety of Sims 3 but maybe a new twist on them. I wish they'd come with Realm of Magic with some Necromancy magic. Such a missed opportunity. I'd also like to see some Mummies. Even if they're tied to the sarcophagus, I just want them to scare the bejeesus out of my Sims. And I also really want some new mythical beasts and beings. Dragons? Yes. Sphinx? Yes. Goblins, Elves, Hippogriffs, Faery Dragons, Dryads (maybe they can be the new and improved plant Sims?) Wraiths, Changelings, Kitsune... Yes, yes, yes!
It's great that we get some little extra tidbits here and there, but I really want to see some new playable Occults. The Sims 4 art style and quirkiness is so perfect for fantasy stuff that it just kills me to have to sit back and wait and guess and hope for the best. I really, really hope there's more in the future for our little beloved nightmares and fantasticals. *Sigh* "Loanet;c-17907013" wrote:
The most annoying thing is that Occults are NOT NICHE. They are extremely popular. Except the realism crowd likes to pretend that they are the majority, even though they are not, and demands them to be nerfed.
Mermaids were given very little attention because they were thrown in with an Expansion. They didn't have to be minimised as they were.
Seconded, with your first paragraph, at least. I too am not convinced that the majority of Sims players are "realism only". I can see why Mermaids were minimised, though. Most worlds don't have swimmable bodies of water in TS4, but a Vampire and a Spellcaster can be used anywhere.- Occult Sims are Sims too!
- atreya33Seasoned VeteranI can only agree. After 7 years we have 2 well developed lifestates (vampires and spellcasters) and 2 minor lifestates (aliens and mermaids)
I remember the sims 2 days were I eagerly awaited the new occult/supernatural for each EP. And sims 3 also had at least one occult per EP, with of course multiple in the supernatural EP. I wish sims 4 would have continued that tradition. Things like strangerville and paranormal are fun but it is not the same because these are activities for normal sims, not sims with a supernatural/occult identity.
Vampires and spellcasters are well done, but if this is the pace they are coming, then we might never get even all the basic occults before the sims ends. I really want werewolves and proper plantsims. - I want more stuff for my sims to be scared of
I'm glad fairies didn't come with the farm pack I want an Ireland or Scottish world for fairy folk - ThriorTheSecondSeasoned Newcomer

Doesnt help whenever we get a scrap of occult anything, here comes the realism-only crowd out in full force demanding that occult presence be nerfed to nothing and anyone who actually enjoyed occult content has to shut up and take it. Maybe if we're lucky we'll get one more occult pack before Sims 5.
Yeah, this gets extra baffling when some knowingly made the decision to buy a pack called Vampires "only for Cas/build items" then proceed to complain when, big shock, there are vampires acting like vampires, and demand the pack be altered to cater to their preferences. Like, bruh, take some responsibility for your own decisions. That would be like me buying, let's say, Cats & Dogs only because I want the new world and some items, then loudly complaining how the presence of cats & dogs is too prevalent. Like nah, that's just silly. Instead I'd accept the fact that I alone made the decision to buy the pack while being perfectly aware I'm not the target audience. Thus, definitely not going to try and ruin it for actual cats & dogs lovers.
Sure, I agree EA definitely should add toggles similar to TS3, since it's the most player friendly option (occult lovers too have preferences and may want play a themed save where only certain type of occults appear) but I'm just saying that some personal responsibility should be taken for cases like the very clearly themed Vampires pack. I'm more understanding of frustrations over e.g. aliens because it's not like they were the main attraction of that expansion pack but, at the same time, it should be acknowledged there are plenty of those who very much enjoy aliens so their preferences shouldn't be just brushed aside with "I want MY game to be realistic, therefore aliens shouldn't appear for anyone". (Seriously EA, where are the toggles?) "InuMiroLover;c-17906887" wrote:

This. I mean can you imagine the outrage if they announced a supernatural expansion rather than the farming one? I bet the community would be on fire right now"Onverser;c-17906920" wrote:
The idea of doing the supernatural occults as gps was good at first, but not when they're doing them as slow as humanely possible... 7 years in and we have.. 2.
We Should have gotten a Occult gamepack rather than the Star Wars one. 2020 could have been the best year of The Sims 4 if that happened. Even if they decided to have a Star Wars game pack, it is the perfect opportunity to create a never before seen occult. How bout an alien race that manipulate the force and lives in a world filled with them and if you have Get To Work, they work along side with the Aliens in game?
Instead we got a Theme Park themed world filled with stage props, no lots editable by default unless you want to mess the game story, and aliens that are just mascot.
What a waste of Game Pack theme it was :((. We can only hope that the next game pack is occult players. The last occult pack we got was in 2019, and no, Paranormal does not count.- I assume more will arrive eventually. In regard to whenever eventually is, I'm certainly not holding my breath.
While it's good that people seem happy on the forum for the time being, I haven't really gotten anything I've actively wanted in the game since, well I guess since maybe the generators/solar panels from Eco Lifestyle? I've liked packs since then, I really like the Paranormal Stuff pack, as it's a nice expansion on the idea of ghosts, if not ghosts themselves. They got me to buy a winter resort pack (on sale), which I unbelievably did not want, by putting it in a location I really loved. And I do enjoy Snowy Escape even if I don't use its main feature. :/
Of course, I'm hoping Paranormal Stuff's imagery of sweeping moors and Celtic designs might lead us to some beautiful settings and occults sooner rather than later. Though I also understand that maybe all of that just fit the aesthetic they were going for in that pack. Still.
To be honest, I don't super want fairies to be next (I'm sorry! :'( ), as I'm concerned they'll just end up being spellcasters with wings. If they do fairies, I hope they do something very very different with them, or something that gets back to real fairy stories, as long as they avoid making fairies simply human with wings and magic. We'll see!
What I want is werewolves, and a setting of misty moors or else a dark, creepy swamp. Gosh I want an overgrown swamp so much.
As to toggles, I would be good with throwing toggles all over this game, so I can have an excess of all the negative trait behavior and occults I can get while others can turn it off. My poor, sweet, Jealously trait. I cry for the loss of what it once was: excessive, over-dramatic, and constant.
Can I just...get a dodgy werewolf who prowls the fields and forests under each full moon and then gambles away all his money in the casino on every other night of the month? I don't know. I mean. That's all I want. Werewolves, casinos, and body hair.
I'm just. So tired.
