I worked in a record shop about a year ago and we spent a month investigating who was stealing our street signs continuously because we had no CCTV. Good thing we laugh in the face of challenge.
Or in true sims fashion just find the darn hot-handed klampit and lock them in a pool surrounded by walls.
To be honest I can sympathize with the OP on this one.. I think the issue is less the robbing itself (which is fine), and more that it's hard to track down what was stolen all the time for the sake of replacing it, especially in a big store. The latter is definitely what keeps me from putting kleptos in my game, not the theft itself.
I always welcome challenge. :# TS3 is too easy in comparison. Don't even try to replace the stolen items. When the store starts looking bare, redecorate. B)
For me it doesn't make anything any harder or more challenging, it's just annoying.- @MissNightOwl I agree. I like the fact that our stuff can get stolen but it would be nice to have it actually properly integrated. that said I also like @IceyJ 's outlook, I might casually stumble across something missing and shake my fist at the sky wondering who has my shopfront potted plant in their living room, and I might enjoy this feeling a little, then buy a new one.

As some others have said, my problem isn't exactly with the stealing but how it's done. If there was a pop-up saying something was stolen, or if a stolen item was replaced with an out-of-stock sign so it's obvious I wouldn't mind so much. But I have kleptos swiping posters off the walls that aren't even for sale, and I like to keep my shops stocked with whatever I bought and it's a pain when I haven't noticed something getting stolen trying to figure out what was supposed to be in the empty space.
It'd be cool if there was a way to combat kleptos in retail, like hiring security guards, placing security cameras as a deterrent, confronting a customer you've witnessed steal. As it is though it seems more like when they made retail lots they forgot about kleptomanics. It really is just an annoyance, it doesn't make it harder necessarily (I mean the tiny amount of profit lost from kleptos is more than made up for by the fact restocking is completely free 95% of the time).- XxAirixX7 years agoSeasoned Ace

Make a club for the kleptos.
Make a second club that hangs out at your store and fights kleptos. Dress them in security guard outfits.
LOL actually, that would be a good idea. We need cops back in the game. I mean already got a police station, start arresting the kleptos! :D - This is a really annoying feature. There is an elderly sim I caught stealing paintings in my art gallery. Thankfully he didn’t steal the masterpiece, but I couldn’t get him to leave. I tried “ask customer to leave,” and she couldn’t. So I kept telling him to go away and he kept coming back. He even swiped one of my restock signs. She saw him do it because her image came up in the queue and it said “see what’s happening.” It’s just frustrating that if you see them and know what’s going on, there’s no loss prevention option or some way to stop them from doing it.
- GildedDiscourse6 years agoNew SpectatorI've had this happen in my recent bakery SO many times. Its seems completely broken. They've stolen not only random clutter decorations, but items I've had for sale and even restocking signs. They even stole restocking signs while my sim was standing right there, RESTOCKING it. There is no way to prevent it. There will be a huge crowd, often sims interacting directly with the Klepto (sometimes they didn't even have the klepto trait) and they just swipe whatever they want. No one reacts or gets caught and there is no option for me to stop it. I've even tried asking sims I knew stole things to leave before they could. Didn't work. Or engaged them directly, all through a sale. And they still stole the item right there while talking to my Baker. It's incredibly frustrating! A little theft is realistic and I'm perfectly fine with that. But this is ridiculous.
- GalacticGal6 years agoLegendYeah, I'd say call the police — but whoops, we don't have ANY. Drat, whose lovely idea was that anyway? Still scratching my head over that one. Oh, well. I love the game even so.
- Fanphoria6 years agoSeasoned AceIt's funny, cause when I was playing as a klepto, I wanted to go shoplifting...and couldn't. So, when playing as a kleptomaniac you're options are very limited and on't include anything set for sale in a retail store, but the NPC kleptos can steal from the store you're running. Hmmm.... :|

"I've never noticed kleptos stealing from my store. Didn't even realize it was a thing."
Yeah, I opened a retail store and was maybe 40 retail sales into the venture when I noticed, "Hey... that counter wasn't empty before!"
I began to realize that not all who enter my retail store are customers. Some are loiterers, others are influencers and some are "papariatzi" (if you own Get Famous), but It's hard to tell who the klepto is unless you are aware of the personality traits of the people who are lingering in your store.
So it might be to your advantage to employ the aspiration trait, "observation" to be able to identify the people in your store with the "klepto" trait. But even so, it's impossile to stop the perpetraitor or recover the stolen items.
It would be deeply satisfying if a store owner was able to: 1) identify who's stealing from the store and 2) shake 'em by the ankles until everything they've stolen (from your store) falls out of their inventory.- Now that I think about it, what's up with random calls from NPC's saying, "Hey, I hear you're a thief. I don't want you coming to my place anymore."
It's odd. 'Cause I'd never been to their place in the first place. I've never tried to develop a klepto character and have never tried to steal anything. I wonder if there's a correlation between that occurrence and the stealing of items from my store. Kind of like being victimized and libeled by the thief.
