Why are the whims in Sims 4 so repetitive and shallow? I constantly get the "Cook pet food" or "Buy a pet ball" or "Buy a swimming pool at least 1X1" Sims 3's whims system was more in depth and made sense. There was a feeling of progression and they were well thought out. These are just nonsensical most of the time and seem to have no rhyme or reason. Who else agrees??

I agree, I loved doing the whims in Sims 3, in fact it’s one of the reasons why I still enjoy Sims 3 so much from time to time (on top of all the other features the game has of course), I really wish Sims 4 had a much better, in depth whim system. There are a lot of good whims, but they should each be tailored to your specific sim with their traits and recent activity. All these whims to buy a pet ball or make pet food should be more exclusive for sims with the Loves Dogs or Loves Cats traits, and all these Buy This Buy That whims should really be geared more towards snob sims who just can’t get enough.

I'd also like it if the whim I just canceled doesn't pop up again immediately afterwards. I don't know how many times I've tried to cancel a whim for a different one to show up and had to give up because my game refused to give me any other whim besides the one I tried to cancel several times in a row.

And all those dollar sign whims ordering me to buy stuff is very popular. Yesterday, I just couldn't get rid of that whim on the Fyres teen. Every delete it popped up again at least a couple of dozen times before I gave up AND almost killed her. It just alternated between wanting to buy various items from the laundry stuff pack, to the hottub and that 1x1 square of the pool. I actually rage quitted (something I've never done in the Sims) because I was so close in deleting/killing the poor teen.

I sooooo much want a timeout on a whim when I x it off.

I agree completely! The whims in TS4 drive me absolutely nuts with their repetitiveness... :angry:

I agree that the whims system could be done better, but I don't really understand why everyone praises so much the one in TS3. Either I haven't played that iteration enough or I'm missing something. 'Meet a vampire' as soon as there any vampire nearby, 'Use the festival tickets' as soon as they enter the festival place, 'Throw a party' as soon as there's any season holiday - they're no better than in TS4.

Same here, ever since Cats and Dogs, I have got Cook Pet Food every 10 minutes without fail, followed by Cook Gourmet Pet Food. The pets are cute and all but I seriously thought of putting them up for adoption today to get rid of the whims.

Save yourself the effort. They will still have those pet whims and it is twice as annoying.

I’ll be honest, I have never really noticed or even looked at the whims in the sims 4! :o However I must admit that I do prefer the sims 2 whims, due to the fact that they are more noticeable and fun to complete!

Sure there are those repeat whims you get for certain events but the whims in TS3 get so much more in depth than that. If your sim has a close friend or family member they'll get a whim to hang out with that specific sim. Or if they just met someone they have chemistry with, they might roll a whim to go out on a date with them. They'll get whims go see a movie or go to a concert or teach their children to drive. The list goes on. The whims are 100x better, varied, and more interesting than TS4 could ever dream to be. I doubt they care to ever fix it.

So much yes. I really hate whims and having the same ones showing up all the time - don't get me started about the pets ones!!! All my kids want to do is play fussball or buy pet balls. Gosh. So many missed opportunities to call friends, hug the dog, have sleepovers or playdates for kids... Sigh...

Plus they are buggy and I don't get credit for adopting pets or getting married/engaged.

Definitely the worst feature of the game for me.

Sounds good - are you happy with it?

So far yes. I haven't notice any repetitive whims but I do hope that EA will do an overhaul and make the whims to be more relevant to the sims traits or even to the life stages like a young adults could have whims of wanting to party with friends and advancing career and when turning adults starts having whims of wanting to settle down and start a family etc.

I completely agree. My teen sim in 3 got a wish to beat up her sister when she was going through a mood swing, she wanted also to be friends with her Mum, get on the honour roll, attend prom and reach a specific painting level skill.

Her mum wanted to crash a party, have her daughter go into the medical career (the same career she had just mastered) buy the ingredients for the new recipie she had just learned, learn a new dish in addition to that and she wanted her son to get on the honour roll.

I never see theses wishes in the sims 4. It’s the same generic stuff irrespective of personality.

Sure, but I get some of these in TS4 too - to joke with somebody, to be friendly, to be mean, to have babies, or to flirt. I don't know, maybe they're more noticable in TS3 because there's more of them in general. I kind of get your point, but in my opinion the whims are not that different, and just poorly done in both iteration.
