Maybe they actually are all in one school. In real life, the school in the very small town where I grew up was kindergarten through 8th grade all in one building. The main reason we didn't also have the 9th through 12th graders there was that we didn't have enough budget for more teachers. There were only about 100 students in the whole school. As a kid, I thought this was completely normal.
We moved for the first time in my life the summer before I went into fifth grade. I would have gone to a real Junior High, Foster Begg, except for that move. We moved to another beach town further south that was expanding due to growth. The first school I went to was a K-6. We did have two separate playgrounds and there were the Little Bathrooms, and the Big Bathrooms (not in size but in grade level). Once I reached seventh grade I went to yet another school, a tad closer to my house. It was a K-8. After that second semester was done, they pulled me out of that school (as well as many others) since they completed yet another K-8 for those of us south of whatever Street, it was. My 8th grade class was very small. All of fourteen girls, small. LOL I have to say I kept in touch with my best friend since fourth grade and got teased when I was able to spend a weekend at her place, and there was a party that first night. Somehow, the fact I wasn't in Junior High was a point of disgrace for me. As I recall, I held my own, railing back at their nonsense.
