- GalacticGalSeasoned AceSince your username implies you're highly into history, then you know that the only way a waist like picture number one was achieved was via the corset of the 19th century, which was a perversion of the stays used in the 18th century which were much more geared toward support and not deforming a woman's body. Women often succumbed to the 'vapors' due to that monstrous piece of underwear cutting of her air supply! Sometimes, 'fashion' is just dumb.
- @GalacticGal Although it was rather unhealthy I don't think it's dumb. Corsets are actually comfortable when they are not tightlaced. I wear a well fitted corset and to be honest it is much more comfortable than a bra! Although I agree that they weren't healthy I don't think they were dumb and as for the women who often succumbed to the 'vapors' it is very likely that they were either tightlacing their corset or had a very ill fitted one (or both!). This is one of my favourite pages that talks about some of the myths of corsets https://adamselindisdress.blog/2014/12/19/corsetted-victorians-and-others-myths-and-reality/
- I really like the first one, I just think she makes such a statement in the photo. I did come close to voting for the third one because of the dog in the background though :D
- LiELFSeasoned VeteranAll of them! Love the whole bunch! But I think 2 and 4 are my preferred. :)
- MovottiNew SpectatorThe 1st one, 'cos of that hat!
On the topic of corsets, apparently they can cause issues if the knees are locked when they're being laced. I was reading a thing about it earlier today, in relation to modern starlets having issues with being laced in. It also seems to be that women with less to 'squish' have more trouble wearing corsets.
