Who Has Done Rags To Riches?

I have a few empty lots in some of the Sims Worlds, and I have been watching quite a few Let's Plays on YouTube. I like a challenge and what I have seen in the Let's Plays has looked like a lot of fun, even if things go wrong, and they frequently go when it comes to The Sims lol Has anyone tried this? If so, how challenging did you find it? Any advice is welcome lol
  • When my photographer/hacker R2R Sim, Eva Knight first started out it was Winter. The seasons were set at 14 days long with rain, thunderstorms, snow, blizzards ticked on and weather affects ticked on for her as well.

She could only earn simoleans at first from taking photographs to sell and hacking on a computer at the library. Eventually she also acquired a small garden to supplement her funds. It took awhile for her to afford very much, so she slept on the couch at the gym or the library, took showers at the gym and stole food from townies in the parks. Once she had enough simoleans to buy a few things, I put down a roof piece and placed a door on it for shelter. The entire structure was free except for the door.

All she had inside at the beginning was a blow up mattress and a few of her selfies for decorations on the wall. Here's what it looked like from the outside:

I could've had her start with a tent, as others have mentioned and I usually do give my R2R Sims a tent when they can afford it, and some would perhaps consider using a roof piece for shelter cheating. But as @duhboy2u2 pointed out, when this challenge was created we didn't have Seasons so I feel any means possible to beat the weather should be allowed. It's just a matter of how challenging you want to make it for your Sim and yourself. :)
  • I agree with everyone else. I did this for a legacy challenge, but I found it easy. By the second gen, my Sims were living wealthy lives.

When I FINALLY make it to 10 generations, I plan to try it again. This time, though, I will start my founder with a toddler. I think that will be much more challenging.

Or possibly make it your goal to have a Sim go from $0 to $1 mil and ALSO reach the top of a (go to work) career. What I mean is don't do the Politician career from home because that's quick and easy; your Sim should actually go to work for 8-ish hours a day. I think that would be much more challenging, since traditional jobs are usually less lucrative than at-home means.
  • I decided to give it a go. I started yesterday and by day 15 she has a nice one bedroom home with kitchen, small living room, a laptop, stereo and a thriving garden, her fishing skill is 5 and her garden skill is 6.

Honestly the only hard bit was nearing the second day. I'm, going to stick with it though because she is a fun and quirky sim.
