Rug textures don't resize

That is because of the rug shader. If you want a resizeable rug, you can make an object that walks talks and smells like a rug but uses Phong or something like that, that will be resizeable like everything else. Just remember to move it a little above 0 on the Z axis (I believe 0.003 should be sufficient; most of the Maxian dropshadows are at 0.005 or thereabouts) because otherwise it will flicker =).

Here’s two screenshots (that prominently feature the flickering issue, because I didn’t think of that): Original size | Enlarged. This is using a rug ftpt, the shader is Phong.

It would be interesting to know what that Rug shader is doing differently though (other than making stuff unresizable) .. I guess there might be some advantage to it that could make it bad idea to use something else.

@pbox is correct, the reason this does not work is because the rug shader does not support the resize cheat. The Rug shader is special because it deals with depth bias and stacking of rugs, which is why the screenshot @pbox posted has z fighting when using phong.

Anyway, it's just an oversight, we will fix the rug shader to support resize.

Ah - while you are editing the rug shader would it be at all possible, please, to allow it to take alphablend (to allow partial transparency)? My tennis court lines would look so much nicer if I could make them look a bit faded in places :D

Yeah, I am interested in the technical explanation too, so would love the guru to add a comment. I mean I am guessing that the shader is primarily intended to keep a texture in foreground visually even when it is on the exact same height as the floor, but what I am puzzled about is why that also means it cannot enlarge horizontally when the object is resized.

Ah, awesome! I completely forgot that rugs can be stacked as well, so using Phong or something else wouldn't actually work all that well.

Yes and tennis court fadeablility would also be nice to have. =D

@SimGuruModSquad since you mentioned rug stacking, are you guys aware of the bug where rugs aren't staying stacked in the correct order? For instance if the creator places rug A on top of rug B, it is quite likely that later, when the save is re-loaded or the lot is placed from the library, rug B will now show up on top of rug A. It definitely puts a crimp in ones creative design options...

What I am seeing is that rug ordering is getting lost when saving to the library, we'll get that fixed.

Basic save and load seems to work fine near as I can tell. Let me know if you can find any other scenarios where it does not work. Thanks.
