SIMS update & MOD failures

The update fix is available but may not resolve all mod content, some of which may not be usable until authors update them due to textures and DirectX.  This can be bypassed by starting the game using C:\Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 4\Game\Bin\TS4_DX9_x64.exe.  This does two things, forces DirectX 9 mode and not 11 (new default) + it downloads a working version of the executable for DirectX9 already patched.

Additionally, some mods are stepped in sub-folders which can be missed by the indexing system (now) even though the config.ini states how many sub-folders deep the index will "look".  This can be fixed by scripting symbolic links to be re-indexed and built into the Mods root as opposed to requiring the index to work correctly. If you are manually installing mods, its easier to simply take all the files out of the folder trees created by extracting the .zip files and placing them in the MODS folder directly.

Also, if you have had a loading issue, remember to delete "localthumbcache.package" and "

accountDataDB.package", then open EA App, go offline, and start the game. These files will be recreated and indexed. This will make most of your mods playable.

Have fun, took 7+ hours to figure it out. LOL

we cant be expected to throw thousands of files unorganized into a mod folder, even as a temporary workaround. That's insanity depending on the mod folder size . There is no way this shouldn't be on Sims to fix. This can't be the expected new normal of storing cc

I tried the method, 1c6c8df46d4d2dfd posted, but same results, always back to the black screen with text on the left, usual resume, load game etc.  None of the buttons work and it's basically just a frozen screen.  Only escape is through the task master.  I think our Free CC and Mod days are over, watching a video on YT seems EA are doing it to make more money.  Will be interesting to hear **bleep** and MCCC's views on this, and all the other Patrons that produce content for the game. Shame, it was fun while it lasted.

Not an expert by any means.  Just typing wha worked for me when I had the black screen.  I as you did used Task Manager to come out.  Then I updated MC Command Centre and Weerbesu's UI Cheat.  For me it was Weerbesu's mod that was causing the black screen.  If you have any UI mods - make sure they have the latest hot fix patch - as they - as far as I can tell are causing the black screen.  Also there is subject where is help is offered on this Forum titled - Game Launches to black screen.
