Game not letting me follow teen sims to school high school years

I have a household with 7 teen sims and 1 adult sim. The game will not let me follow the teen sims to school. Most of the time I don’t even get the pop up asking if I want to follow them, even though I have follow messages turned on for all of my teen sims. When it does let me follow them to school, the day goes normally until the end. At 3 when the school day is supposed to be over only one sim comes home. The rest of the teens stay at school and cannot attend their after school activities or come home unless I restart my game. When I restart my game, the sims come home but the game doesn’t register them as ever having gone to school at all. None of them have new homework except for the one who came home properly and all of their grades stay at a C.

I’m not sure if this is related to the new base game update but I only started noticing it on the 18th.
