Stove not working

My sims will go and get the food to cook out of the fridge and will prepare it on the counter then will do the wave thing and say they can't get to it. i've done everything to try fix it - restarting game, new stove, moving objects, everything. it won't work. I have no cc or anything and it won't work with any stove.
