game crashes every time i play a household

I haven't played Sims 4 for a few months but I went to play yesterday and it loads the home screen fine, and I can get to the world but when I click on a house and click 'play' to play as that household, it will load the house and then crash a few seconds later.

I have a MacBook Air, macOS Mojave with 121GB storage...

I've tried various things people said to do on this forum:

First I removed all my mods but the game still crashed.

Then I made a backup of my whole Sims 4 folder and played on a 'factory reset' game.

Then I repaired it in Origin.

Then I uninstalled Sims 4 and reinstalled it.

After doing all these things the issue persists. I'm not sure what else to do... help?
