Can you play if you launch the game through your Applications folder rather than Origin?

Yes that's what I meant.
Have you tried deleting the cache files or moving out the TS3 folder from your Documents folder? Any CC/Mods? Do you purge RAM before loading the game? If you need any help with those suggestions you can find tips in the stickied Sims 3 help thread on this forum.
Let me know how you get on with the troubleshooting steps. It would also help if you posted your Mac's specs. 🙂
