M1 Mac mini display resolution issues after closing game in fullscreen
Product: The Sims 4
Platform:Mac
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.97.42.1230
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? EP: All --- GP: All except Batuu and Strangerville --- SP: Laundry Day, Nifty Knitting, Vintage Glamour
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Boot the game in full screen on MacOS
What happens when the bug occurs? I open The Sims via Origin on my Mac Mini M1 2020 running on Ventura 13.3.1 (22E261) which has a custom 16gb memory. I play full screen. Since the last update (April 18, 2023) the game automatically somehow changes EVERYTHING (game, dock, firefox, desktop etc.) to 960x540 (HiDPI) from my default screen resolution of 1920x1080. This persists even after I quit the sims & Origin. Windowed mode often appears not "full screen" within the window but in a square shape.
What do you expect to see? Normal size everything, being able to play full screen again with "normal" sized cursor in game and no interference with my desktop resolution.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. Update 04/18/2023 - Mac: 1.97.42.1230
The game changes my computer's overall resolution since the last update by enlarging / zooming in which totally messes up the game UI and is persistent on my OS even after I close the game and Origin.
Since the last update (April 18, 2023) the game automatically enlarges everything on my OS upon launching it via Origin, almost as if it triggers accessibility mode OS-wide. I start a brand new save and icons are overlapping in CAS and the cursor's massive. I quit the game and everything on my OS, including the dock and desktop items remains like 3x their original size. In game, I tried changing the resolution to make everything appear smaller which did work, however the cursor's the same bigger size and UI prompts/tiles in main menu remain massive (full screen).
I tried Cmd+Ctrl+F as suggested in another thread which put the game in windowed mode (then I needed to enlarge everything again via Options). This has two outcomes: ⚽ Either works and I get the normal resolution on my MacOS back, the game looking all right with a cursor that remains huge; or 🏈 windowed mode somehow puts the Sims UI into a square picture resolution (see attached image) but also has normal resolution on my other apps. In case of 🏈 I switch back and forth between windowed mode and full screen + dragging the corners of the window and it magically solves itself by going in to version ⚽. The end result is the same: since the new update I cannot play full screen and regardless what I do, the cursor's massive.
I not only removed all my CC and Mods but also reset the EA folder, so I think it has to do something with the new update which included some CPU tweaking for Mac users.
Edit - edited title to make it M1 Mac mini specific (Bluebellflora)
so I just had that same issue, and I have an external screen but I unchecked the "Retina display' in sims settings and it appears to work as of now
