Since updating my Mac to the lastest MacOS catalina sims has been unbable to open but was previously on MacOSMojave. an error box keeps popping up. origin is still able to open
- puzzlezaddict6 years agoHero+
@dylanlinds454 Which Sims game doesn't open? And are you getting any error messages? A screenshot would be helpful.
@puzzlezaddict The error I am seeing is
new proc failed with errno: 0x56
/Applications/The Sims 4.app/Contents/Frameworks/ActivationUI.app/Contents/MacOS/ActivationUI"
I've tried every workaround and have even re-installed Origin.
Running via terminal:
$ ./ActivationUI
-bash: ./ActivationUI: Bad CPU type in executableI'm assuming this is just due to Apple changing something major in macOS and we'll have to wait for an update. Unfortunately, I'm unable to install Photoshop/Premiere 2018 either. :\

Ahh, looks like macOS killed 32-bit apps in Catalina. How stupid.
- Bluebellflora6 years agoHero+@Wlc0349
Yep, they did indeed kill 32-bit apps. Catalina is in beta and will be until around September. Hopefully EA will fix this issue (they did in the April patch but had to roll back because it broke the game for Lion users) before Catalina is released. Beta versions of OSs are not supported.
I hope some sort of update comes out earlier than September; ofc I understand that beta OSes wouldn't be supported, but getting the updated patch earlier (even if we had to opt-in in some way i.e. in Origin) would be helpful, especially since it's such a small component that already had a 64 bit variant before.

I am in the same boat. I am using a beta version of Mac Catalina and The Sims 4 or Origin won't open. It is very frustrating, and i open they release an update soon.
yep, same issue here, found the file with a big white cross through it ☹️
- 6 years ago
Yep, same problem here. Running the Catalina public beta. Hopefully this can be fixed soon.
- Bluebellflora6 years agoHero+Catalina won't be out for another 3 months or so probably. It may take until then to fix it as it's still in beta.
I do hope this is fixed soon! I just bought Island Living and I'm super annoyed that I can't play it.

The other option you have if you have already upgraded to Catalina is to install Mojave on a separate drive. I've written a guide here on how to do this - http://bluebellflora.com/running-32-bit-apps-after-macos-mojave/
You should still be able to download and install Mojave through the App Store at this point.
Also, EA are not obligated to fix this as Catalina is in beta. Running beta versions of operating systems is always a risk and should never be installed on your main machine.

For MacOS, Sims 4 is 64-bit...
If you want to play it without waiting so long. download Windows on your mac.and from there I can play very well sims 4.
- 6 years ago@Shae_Lenae1 lol same feel u!

Spoke with an EA Advisor, *snip* , Sims 4 studio team is working on fixing this and it should be back soon. I just wanna play the dang game.
EDIT bu EA_Jason: Don't try to bypass the swear filter.

The risk with installing unsupported operating systems is that your Mac may be unstable and some apps will not work. This has been a known issue for a year now and we have been getting warning messages about 32-bit apps not running in subsequent versions of macOS after Mojave. Yes, Sims 4 is 64-bit but this one file, the ActivationUI, is a 32-bit executable. This was actually fixed in the April patch but then rolled back as the game didn't load for Lion users.
The golden rule of installing beta versions of operating systems - never do it on your main machine, ever.- 6 years ago
