In your Documents folder should be an Electronic Arts folder. In the Electronic Arts folder should be The Sims 4 folder. In The Sims 4 folder should be all your user data such as a saves folder, a Tray folder, a Mods folder and other various files and folders your game loads data from and writes data to.
Do you have that? - @AliciaBartz
And a screenshot of the contents of the saves folder too please. In list view, not tile view. okieee

Thanks. There are two issues:
Your Electronic Arts folder is on the Desktop. It has to be directly in your Documents folder for the game to see it and load data.
Scratch folders are created when the game crashes and doesn't quit properly. For some reason you have put all your saves into the "Scratch 2" folder as the game would never store them there. Move all the saves, the files starting "Slot_" from the Scratch 2 folder and place them directly in the saves folder.
You then need to move the Electronic Arts folder from the Desktop to the Documents folder. If there is already an Electronic Arts folder in the Documents folder, because the game recreates one every time it launches if there is not already one there, rename it. let me try now and get back to you
it worked!!!!!! thank you, but why isn't my mccommand working?

No idea. Is your Mods folder in the Sims 4 folder in the Electronic Arts folder in the Documents folder? Are you running the version compatible with the current patch level of the game? Hello! I lost about 3 years of progress when my Mac updated today. Any idea how to get it back? I'm only slightly panicking. Thanks!
That wasn't helpful ☹️ I moved it to Macintosh documents and it didn't do anything. Still says "new game" even though I am logged in on EA. Am I missing a step?

Where is your saves folder now? The EXACT and full location please, for example - Macintosh HD > Users > [User] > Documents etc. or iCloud > Documents etc. See photo attached. Is this the correct location?

Yes. Now a screenshot of the contents of your saves folder please. Can you also change it to list view, it's far easier to read.
