@BluebellfloraDoh! Silly me. I see...
Mac OS Big Sur
Version 11.2.1
iMac (Retina 5k 27-inch, 2019
Processor 3GHz 6-Core Intel Core i5
Memory 8GB 2667 MHz DDR4
Graphics Radeon Pro 57OX 4GBI have No antivirus as my BT McAfee stopped working with Big Sur, but I'll be getting on asap! I have tried without mods, but the problem persists. Cleaned cache. Turned off as many background apps as I can, but still a very hot computer. Moved all my photos and videos to iCloud.
Thanks again.

Thanks 🙂
I have a 2019 iMac too:
27” 2019 5k
macOS 11.2
3.6 GHz 8-core i9
8GB AMD Radeon Pro 580X
32 GB RAM
and the fans are noisy for me too because of the way I play. I play in windowed mode at a very high resolution. The game runs great though and I can have it playing for hours.
You would need to lower the graphics settings in-game so less power is required from the GPU, hence less heat produced and therefore less work for the fans to do.
If you wanted to upgrade the RAM it is very easy to do yourself. I bought mine with 8GB and immediately upgraded to 32GB. - Gednaa5 years agoSeasoned Ace@Bluebellflora Great to find another Mac user and thanks for the help. I do indeed use windowed mode but I turned down the graphics when I had Eco installed and it was still a very noisy, hot Mac! I only got the antivirus with my Broadband, but for months they haven't bothered to upgrade to Big Sur. I have a clean out with Clean My Mac and keep background apps to a minimum. I'll try again and use full screen and lower the graphics again, now that I don't have Eco installed it will hopefully manage. I'll still get more RAM as I'm a musician and need the memory for the amount of software involved. Thanks again! 🙂

We have a whole Mac forum! What resolution do you play at?
Cleaning apps are awful, really, really awful. They can remove system files resulting in OS instability and requiring an OS reinstall. - Gednaa5 years agoSeasoned Ace@Bluebellflora currently at resolution 5120 x 2880, and all other graphics at medium, but thinking of going lower as my Mac is getting stuck, i.e the mouse won't move. I've had to exit Sims now so that I could post this reply. That doesn't usually happen. I've ordered extra ram 32gb which will be arriving tomorrow and am hoping it will help. I shall try lowering the graphics again, but it's starting to look pretty awful! Thanks for the link to the Mac Forum. Yay! Much appreciated. 🙂
- Gednaa5 years agoSeasoned Ace@Bluebellflora Just got my new ram and installed. Running at 72GB now! lol. But it's as cool as a cucumber and very quiet in my room. Thanks for all your help. 🙂
- Gednaa5 years agoSeasoned Ace@Bluebellflora I thought I'd bought 32gb but it was 2 x 32 gb making 64, plus the two 4gb already in there! I thought it was expensive when I went to checkout! LOL. This means I can really get back into making my music as some of the software is very RAM hungry. Yay!

Thanks for all your help. 🙂But here you have said you're still having issues - https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues-PC/Weird-lag-in-build-buy-mode-and-sometimes-in-Live-Mode-too/m-p/10089260#M208433
Out of interest, how much RAM is the game using? It really shouldn't use more than 3Gb or so, depending on what you're doing in-game and the content you have installed.
Also, you don't have an iMac Pro, you have an iMac. iMac Pros are a lot more powerful and more expensive than our iMacs (and absolutely gorgeous) - https://www.apple.com/imac-pro/

@BluebellfloraI'm shocked! I thought I had an iMac Pro 5. That's what the shop told me I was buying. I spent a fortune (for my budget) on it! No wonder things are getting so weird for me. I'll have to dig out my receipt and see what I've been charged for, because it seems I haven't got what I thought! Thank you for this. I'll be checking with the retailer on Monday! I had always wondered why it wasn't as good as my self built windows PC with 32 bg. ram and big graphics card. Gutted. But thanks for the insight.
Oh no ☹️ No, you don't at all. There is also no such thing as an iMac Pro 5. There is the iMac and the iMac Pro range. In fact you have the cheapest entry level 27" iMac. It's still great machine but not the most powerful and if you're using it for pro music software you should definitely have more power in the CPU and more RAM.
If you look back at the posts on the previous page where we both posted specs you can compare our machines. There is a big jump from the entry 6-core i5 to the 8-core i9 and my GPU, which is what makes the difference with the game, has 8GB VRAM, yours has 4GB (which should still be great BTW). From memory, mine cost around £2,200 with the upgraded CPU, I upgraded the RAM myself, Apple charge way too much for that.
The iMac models are here - https://www.apple.com/uk/imac/
The iMac Pro is here - https://www.apple.com/uk/imac-pro/
Easiest way to tell the difference by just looking at them is the colour. The iMacs have a silver casing, the iMac Pro has a black casing.
You can never compare Windows PCs and Macs. iMacs have everything in one behind the screen and also use what are essentially mobile components. Your self-built PC was a tower presumably? The PC would have had much better cooling although I have never had a problem with Macs overheating and yes, they do get hot. The only true upgradeable desktop machine Apple make is the Mac Pro - https://www.apple.com/mac-pro/
- Gednaa5 years agoSeasoned Ace@Bluebellflora Thanks for all this great info! I'll be sure to check out those links. When I purchase this Mac, I was told by the store that it would be great for a musician, so I feel ripped off, but at least I've got more ram now and hopefully, things will run better when I get back into music again. Been too ill to think about composing, so the Sims has helped me a lot. Even when it gets buggy, it's something to keep my brain focused, getting things sorted out with the help of others and making friends at the same time. Have a great weekened!

It is still a great machine and if you're using Logic Pro you should be fine, Apple software running on a Mac is perfect harmony 🙂 - Gednaa5 years agoSeasoned Ace
Totally agree, but :DI use FL Studio, have done for many years. It's the only one that has the most powerful piano roll and free updates for life. It's hard for most people to get their head round, but it's the only studio (and I've tried many) that I could. I have high functioning Autism, so maybe this is the reason! As long as it works with Big Sur I'll manage, otherwise it'll be no more music. I just haven't got round to testing it yet. Too busy simming!😃
