Thanks for getting back to me! This was what I suspected, disappointing from Apple but I wasn't as into Sims (played for 15 years or so but in very on/off phases) when I bought it so just naively assumed it would handle it better than my old 2015 one ☹️ I've got it to stop temporarily by switching laptop mode off then on again and the clear out of files has helped it run faster, so there's that! 

Attached is my config.log file. I'm leaning towards selling it anyway and putting the proceeds towards a gaming laptop.

    It's not really surprising. At no point have Apple ever stated that the Intel MacBook Airs are capable of gaming. They're absolutely brilliant for what they are designed for though, school and work on the go.
