thank you for this, but i still have storage on my mac, my documents and desktop folders are unchecked, and my folder's in the right location. i'm not exactly sure what went wrong?
Let's start with a proper search of your Mac.
Please open Terminal and copy and paste the following command then hit Enter/Return:
find / -type d -name "*The Sims 4*" 2>/dev/null
After a little while it will return the results of the search. Please copy and paste the results in a post here.
/Users/mariamzacca/Desktop/My Documents/The Sims 4

this is everything that showed up
origin, i downloaded it a couple years back when it was free for a limited time. but before that i tried to download a cracked version so maybe some files are still on my computer? im not sure

The search results show you have the cracked copy still installed and not running the game through Origin (there are no references to Origin in the search results).
Remove the cracked copy and download and install the game through Origin. i tried this and removed all other cracked files that i could find but its still not working? does it have to do with needing to update my computer software or is that not related? and are there any extra steps i could take? thank you for your help so far

im not sure why this is still showing up but theres not much else thats there for me to delete? idk what exactly to look up in order to delete the files
You need to remove the cached cracked files from the hidden Library folder. The file path is in the results you pasted. In Finder click Go > Go to Folder, paste the file path and hit Go. Apple help page here - https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/mac-help/mchlp1236/11.0/mac/11.0.
Once you've got rid of them, and you're running a legitimate copy of the game through Origin, we can work on getting your CC to show up.
@Bluebellflora very sorry for the late response!! i tried what u said and this came up
/Library/Application Support/Origin/LocalContent/The Sims 4
/Users/mariamzacca/Desktop/My Documents/The Sims 4
/Users/mariamzacca/Applications/The Sims 4 Packs
/Users/mariamzacca/Applications/The Sims 4.app

Great. You have two Sims 4 folders, one in a folder called My Documents on your desktop and one in your Documents > Electronic Arts folder. The CC needs to be in the latter, in the Mods subfolder. @Bluebellflora okay i did that. is there anything else i need to do?
@Bluebellflora yes, there's still no cc showing up,, i'm not sure if it has to do with me deleting some files in the beginning (based on what some tutorials said)
should i delete the cc and reinstall it or is there anything else to be done?
Weird. You definitely have CC and Mods enabled in the game options?
@Bluebellflora yes, i've made sure of it multiple times
Ok. Let's try another Mods search. Try this command in Terminal:
find / -type d -name "*Mods*" 2>/dev/null
Paste the results here and then we can do a search of the contents of that folder.
/Users/mariamzacca/Desktop/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Mods
/Users/mariamzacca/Desktop/clutter/ts42/Mods
/Users/mariamzacca/Documents/Sims 4 Studio/Mods
/Users/mariamzacca/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Mods
so in one of the tutorials someone said to rename my sims 4 folder in order for ea to generate a new one when i start up the game (the old one's called ts42 and its in a folder called clutter)
which do i delete?
/Users/mariamzacca/Desktop/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Mods /Users/mariamzacca/Desktop/clutter/ts42/Mods /Users/mariamzacca/Documents/Sims 4 Studio/Mods /Users/mariamzacca/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Mods
The one in bold shows the Mods folder where your CC/Mods should be.
Ignore the Sims 4 Studio one.
The other two are on your desktop. If your CC/Mods are in one of those two Mods folders you need to move them into the one in bold.
If they are in the one in bold and still not showing in the game, please paste this into Terminal, hit return and paste the results here. This is showing the contents of the Mods folder (the one above in bold):
ls -l /Users/mariamzacca/Documents/Electronic\ Arts/The\ Sims\ 4/Mods
@Bluebellflora it's still not showing up so i copied this into terminal and this came up
Mariams-MacBook-Air:~ mariamzacca$ ls -l /Users/mariamzacca/Documents/Electronic\ Arts/The\ Sims\ 4/Mods
total 8

Thanks. That shows that the Mods folder the game is using (the one in bold in my previous post) is empty. Your Mods must be in one of the other Mods folders, on your desktop. Move them over to the one in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 and they should load. it's showing that the Documents folder is in the Desktop folder, should i take it out of the desktop folder?
I don't know why you have a Documents folder on the desktop but your game is not looking there for your saves and mods.
The game looks for saves, game settings, Mods etc. in this location:
/Users/mariamzacca/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4
In your Finder sidebar you should see a Documents folder. it is that Documents folder that is in the file path above and where the Mods folder is that you should put your Mods in.
I'm not really sure how I can make it any clearer âšī¸
@Bluebellflora alright, thank you very much for all your help!! don't worry, i think i understand đ greatly appreciate it!
