Right, let's see if we can get you some Mac specific help 🙂

Can you please disable Origin in-game and see if that helps?

I know you've posted some info in previous posts but please can you provide more information about your Mac and game (if disabling Origin didn't work). Instructions on how to do so and info needed here - http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-Mac/READ-FIRST-Sims-4-Mac-Help-Guides-and-Troubleshooting/m-p/4612396/highlight/true#M162

    Hello,

I have tried disabling origin in game and that still doesn't help, I have also tried opening sims 4 out of my applications instead of origin and it still won't open.. it just goes to the rainbow wheel and says not responding...

I honestly don't know what to do anymore, I am really upset that I have spent money on this game and can no longer play it.

And what model and year is your Mac? There are various different MacBook Pros and Apple have been producing them for over a decade 🙂

    @ejane223

    Thanks 🙂

    Can you please do this:

    1. In your Applications folder right click on the Sims 4 app and select Show Package Contents.
    2. Navigate to Contents > Mac OS.
    3. Right click on The Sims 4 and select Move to Trash. Don't drag the file as it will only move an alias and leave the original in place. If there is another file in the folder, The Sims 4.par, leave it alone.
    4. Now open Origin, click on The Sims 4 in your Games Library and click on Download.

Once the game is showing as installed try and load it. If that doesn't work then please set up a new user account on your Mac and see if you can play in that account. If you need help setting up a new user account just ask.

I followed your steps above and I still can't open the game, every time I launch it the rainbow wheel pops up and I cannot launch it...

How do I set up a new user account?

Thank you for all your help by the way!!

You're welcome 🙂 Have you installed any antivirus or 'clean up' apps recently? Anything between it working and then not working?

To set up a new user account go to System Preferences > Users & Groups. Click on the lock in the bottom left corner and enter your password when prompted. Then click on the + button above the lock. In the pop-up window select a new Administrator account, give it a name and password then click Create User. Close System Preferences and anything else you have open then click on the Apple in the top left corner and log out. Now log in to your new account, open Origin and log in then launch the game.

I haven't installed any cleanup apps or antivirus apps lately or sine it hasn't been working.

I also just set up a new account just like you said above, but the game still won't open.. it still shows a rainbow wheel and application not responding...

Ok, this is frustrating! If the following doesn't work then I'm not sure what to suggest. Let's completely uninstall the game and Origin. You can also remove that account you just made.

    1. Move your Sims 4 folder from Documents > Electronic Arts to somewhere safe, preferably an external USB/drive
    2. Open Origin, right click on the game in your games library and select Uninstall. If you have any game shortcuts on your Mac in the Dock or on the Desktop trash them.
    3. Once it's finished uninstalling download and run the Origin reset tool.
    4. After running the reset tool go into Applications and trash the Origin app.
    5. Empty the trash and restart your Mac.
    6. Download and install Origin.
    7. Download the base game and see if it works.
