Sims 3 EPs not working on Early 2016 MacBook

Hi everyone,

So I am having issues with downloading Sims 3 Expansion Packs on my Early 2016 MacBook (Retina, 12 inch). I downloaded the base game through Origin and have no problems whatsoever, even the graphics are pristine.

I tried installing some expansion packs through Origin but have no luck I just get an error message about a "service initialization failed (0x0175....)". I read TONS of articles and forums about the issue but the only up to date MacBook was from 2015. I need help being able to download the packs from Origin. My computer doesn't have a USB port or anything so I am unable to do a lot of things. I just reinstalled the games so many times and even tried changing the specs of my game.

Nothing I have done has worked, and I don't know what will happen if I try to do something to my computer since its an Early 2016 model. PLEASE HELP!!

    Thank you for the reply! I have seen sooo many of your posts and help forums. My MacBook is not an Air or Pro, so that's probably the issue. I installed the super patch through my browser, and it didn't help. Also read the post that you linked in your reply and that didn't help either.

    I tried installing World Adventures and then I got an error message saying the base game is more up to date than expected and that the WA pack would be incompatible but I installed anyway to no avail. Now whenever I launch the Sims, before the launcher even pops up, I get an Internal Error message and then continue anyways only to have it Quit Unexpectedly.

    At this point I think that there is no hope for any expansion packs, but the base game was running perfectly. I also have another question: will the Sims 4 be compatible for my MacBook? Don't want to invest in it if it only causes issues.

    @xojmo13xo

    You could try but as I said in my previous post, the new MacBooks are just not made for gaming. Gaming makes computers hot as they are very resource heavy (processor, graphics etc.). They need fans to cool them down but your Mac doesn't have one so it has no way of cooling itself. To get round this your Mac will throttle the resources so it doesn't overheat. This means that the processing and graphics power needed to make the game run smoothly are limited. Sorry ☹️

    Hi @xojmo13xo,

    As @Bluebellflora said, your Mac is not the best option for gaming. It's a great computer for work/college, but it lacks a proper cooling solution and Apple did not design it to play games.

    The Sims 3 is a very demanding game, it has to simulate both your own Sims and all the Sims in the world. This needs tons of calculations that are made on your CPU and, due to that, it produces heat because it's working. Your Mac does not have fans or a cooling system, and macOS will automatically reduce the CPU load in order to literally save your nice MacBook and avoid it to turn itself down due to heat or even to prevent CPU burning.

    To make things worst, you Mac includes an Intel graphic solution, which is a small chip manufactured on the same CPU package. This will rise the heat on the CPU even more because The Sims 3 also needs a lot of power from the GPU in order to create those graphics.

    Sadly, your MacBook is not the best choice to play The Sims 3 or any other modern Mac game ☹️

    I can't thank you enough for the info. I'll definitely investigate more the next time I get a laptop, but until then I'll just have to play the base game!
