Sims 3 on new Macbook Pro

Hey everyone. I seem to be having trouble running The Sims 3 on my new Retina Macbook Pro 15" (Mid-2017).

The specs are as follows:

OS: macOS Sierra (10.12.5)

Processor: 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7

Memory: 16GB 2133MHz LPDDR3

Graphics: Radeon Pro 560 w/ 4GB VRAM, Intel HD Graphics 630 1536MB

I purchased The Sims 3 Starter Pack and downloaded everything through Origin. It seems to install everything fine, and after patching the .app file with the super-patcher, the launcher shows "An unknown error occurred" when trying to run The Sims 3. I have also tried completely uninstalling the game and Origin as per BlueBellFlora's tutorials but I'm still not having any luck. I've read that The Sims 3 doesn't natively support macOS, especially Sierra.

EDIT: No anti-virus software is installed, and macOS was freshly installed before downloading/installing The SIms 3.

  • I finally got it to work by manually installing each expansion pack! Thank you everyone. <3

That's really good to know 🙂 Especially as your AMD GPU isn't supported but you can play Sims 3 on it. Just to clarify, you have the base game, High End Loft and Late Night installed?

I'm moving your thread to the Sims Mac forum too so other Mac users can see it.

Yes, both High End Loft and Late Night are installed along with the base game.

I also managed to successfully install Seasons and Island Paradise! This is really great.

I hope someone answers!!! Did you use the CDs, or digital downloads??? I tried installing it via CD on an external optical drive, and it kept saying my video card (pro 555) was not in the database. I tried adding it, as shown in tutorials, but nothing works!! ☹️
