Sims 4 will not launch

I am having an issue where the sims 4 app will not launch from the EA app. When I hit play or open the sims 4, the EA app will simply minimise and then the sims app will appear in my dock, then the EA app will maximise again. I downloaded the EA app about 3 days ago and played no problem, then when I went o play again this started happening. I have tried the following:

1. Uninstalling and reinstalling both the EA app and the Sims 4;
2. Clearing the cache;
3. ensuring both the EA app and the Sims 4 have full access to the disc;
4. talking to the EA help team and them uninstalling/removing the sims from my account and then redownloading it;
5. restarting my computer;
6. 'repairing' the sims 4 in the EA app; and
7. shutting down my Mac and then opening it in 'safe mode'.

I have no idea what else to try, if anyone had a similar issue please let me know how you resolved it. 

despite all the above efforts when it comes to try and open it, the EA app will just minimise then maximise without launching the game. 

any help would be greatly appreciated.
